Apollon v Basel Betting Preview, Odds & Tips
- Date: 30/08/2018
- Time: 18:00
- Venue: Tsirio Stadium
Apollon have not yet kicked off their league campaign so they come into this game off the back of a defeat to Basel in the first leg where they lost 3-2 in Switzerland, but those 2 away goals could be crucial come the end of Thursday night’s game. Apollon may have found themselves unlucky not to take at least a draw away from Basel as at one point in the game they found themselves 2-1 up.
Basel have already played 5 games in the league so far and find themselves sitting second in the Swiss Super League, but already 7 points adrift of BSC Young Boys. Basel managed to get past Vitesse in the previous round with a 2-0 aggregate win and they come into this 2nd leg encounter with an advantage, although only slight. Basel will be looking to former Sporting, Norwich and Vitesse hitman, Ricky van Wolfswinkel to secure their place into the Europa League group stages.
Former Nottingham Forest and Ipswich man Mustapha Carayol is expected to replace Kevin Bru, another former Ipswich player in the attacking midfield role for Apollon.
With no noticeable injuries for Basel I expect them to line up as they did in the first leg.
Potential Apollon Starting XI: Vale, Pedo, Yuste, Roberge, Vasilou, Sachetti. Lyriakou, Carayol, Papoulis, Adrian, Maglica
Potential Basel Starting XI: Hansen, Widmer, Cumart, Balanta, Petretta, Serey Die, Zuffi, Frei, van Wolfswinkel, Ajeti, Kalulu
Head To Head
- Apollon and Basel have only met once before and that was in the first leg of this tie which Basel won 3-2.
Key Stats & Facts
- Apollon and won 3 out of their last 5 games scoring 11 goals in the process.
- Basel have won 4 out of their last 5 matches scoring 11 goals.
- Apollon 29/20
- Draw 12/5
- Basel 7/4
These two teams seem to score goals like they are going out of fashion with Apollon scoring in 4 of their last 5 and Basel in 5 of their last 5 so I’m going to go with Both Teams to Score for this one. I think this will be a difficult trip for Basel and think Apollon could win this game in another high scoring affair.
