It’s the battle of the bees on Monday night as Championship outfit Brentford make the short trip to National league side Barnet to round off the fourth round.

Barnet have got past Braintree, Bristol Rovers, Stockport and Sheffield United to get this far. It’s a great achievement for the North London side to get this far and with the cameras on them they’ll be keen to show the nation what they’re about.

Brentford deservedly beat Oxford in the third round and have picked up under Thomas Frank since the festive period. The M4 club boast a W4, D3 record in their last 7 and an alteration in shape seems to have had the desired effect.

Under Dean Smith they played a 4-2-3-1 formation but they’ve changed to a 3-4-3 which has seemingly brought the best out of their players. Kamehelo Mokotjo is in the best form since his arrival from FC Twente, Said Benrahma and Romaine Sawyers are both impressing too as well as hotshot Neal Maupay.

Impressive defender Chris Mepham has departed for Bournemouth this month but Yoann Barbet has slotted into the back three along with Julian Jeanvier and Ezri Konsa with aplomb. Rico Henry is playing in a more advanced role on their left hand side and is flourishing.

Team News

Brentford gaffer Thomas Frank has said that he will make a few changes but nothing drastic here. Chiedozie Ogbene could come in up front, Moses Odubajo may also be given a start along with Josh McEachran. Emiliano Marcondes and Lewis MacLeod remain out.

Barnet are likely to go strong and may remain almost unchanged from their last game at Braintree. Goalkeeper Mark Cousins is banned after his red card last week. Leeds loanee Will Huffer could take his place.

Potential Barnet Starting XI: Huffer, Reynolds, Johnson, Alexander, Walker, Robson, Adams, Taylor, Sweeney, Coulthirst, Mason-Clark.

Potential Brentford Starting XI: Daniels, Odubajo, Jeanvier, Konsa, Barbet, Henry, Da Silva, McEachran, Canos, Watkins, Ogbene.

Match Odds

  • Barnet – 7/1
  • Draw – 19/5
  • Brentford – 4/9

Key Stats & Facts

  • Brentford are unbeaten in their last 13 meetings with Barnet.
  • Barnet have never reached the fifth round of the FA cup.
  • Brentford have won their last 3 meetings with non-league opposition in this competition by an aggregate scored of 12-1.

The Verdict

History isn’t with the hosts here and it may prove one step too far for them here I think. Brentford are as short as 4/9 to win in 90 minutes which is probably about fair. We can boost that to 4/5 by chucking in over 1 goal with Bet365’s BetBuilder and that looks solid.

Brentford have plenty of goalscoring threats and they could get a few here. I wouldn’t rule out Barnet scoring but I feel the visitors will outscore them. This gets every Brentford win onside apart from 1-0.

I’m also going to have a go in the player card market. Henrik Dalsgaard is 5/1 to be booked with BetVictor and that looks too big considering he’s been booked more times than any other Brentford player (8).

The Dane has been playing as a wing-back these days and has to get up and down a lot. Barnet have some quick attacking players who could trouble him in 1 on 1 situations. There’s 18 players shorter than him in this market and given he’s the most cautioned player of both sides that doesn’t make sense.

Recommended Bets

  • 2pts – Brentford to win and over 1 goal – 4/5 (Bet365 – BetBuilder)
  • 1pt – Henrik Dalsgaard to be carded – 5/1 (BetVictor)
