Belgium v Portugal Betting Preview, Tips & Odds
Venue: King Baudouin Stadium
Current European Championship holders Portugal host 2018 World cup 6th favourites Belgium on Saturday with both sides trying to stamp their authority on the upcoming World Cup.
Cristiano Ronaldo won’t feature for the hosts after only recently winning the Champions League with Real Madrid but with Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva, Barcelona’s Andre Gomes the squad is full of potential and AC Milan’s donned ‘next Ronaldo’ Andre Silva who’s form suggests he may make an impact in Russia.
The Milan man scored three goals in as many games to finish Portugal’s qualifications on a high.
Many will already be aware of Belgium’s English based stars in Thibaut Courtois, Vincent Kompany, Eden Hazard and Kevin De Bruyne (to name just a few) but they also boast the likes of Serie A’s fifth leading scorer Dries Mertens as well as Ligue 1 champions PSG’s right back Thomas Meunier.
Chelsea’s top scorer Eden Hazard was on target in a 9-0 Belgium victory, the same game Lukaku scored a hat-trick, and the pair both have two goals in three matches finishing the qualification stage.
Portugal haven’t won in their previous two fixtures, a 3-0 defeat to the Netherlands followed by a 2-2 draw with Tunisia. However, this run followed a six-match winning streak including a 5-0 hammering of the Faroe Islands and a convincing 2-0 victory over Switzerland.
Including that 9-0 victory, Belgium boast and even better success record than their opponents currently on an 11-match unbeaten run and have won all but one of those matches. This run also includes an 8-0 victory over Estonia but they were held 1-1 against Greece.
Cristiano Ronaldo is the only absentee for both sides as he continues his extended break.
