Promotion pushers Bristol City travel to strugglers Bolton Wanders this week, as they look to strengthen their position within the play-off places and push on towards 2nd spot.
This is potentially a huge game for Bolton, who could move themselves out of relegation with a win and up into 19th. They haven’t lost a league game at home in their last 3 outings, and manager Phil Parkinson will be hoping to draw upon that in the lead up to the game. After a 2nd place finish in League 2 last season, it is paramount Bolton don’t go straight back down, and a club of their stature should be competing towards the top of the table.
Jon Flagan made a deadline day move to Bolton on loan, and fans will be hoping his off-field antics clear up and he can reproduce his best form. They have a tough run of games in Bristol, Fulham, and Cardiff (all in play-off places) so the injection of new blood may increase confidence amongst the fans.
Bristol City have earned their plaudits this season and rightly so. A win over Manchester United in the League cup and 2 subsequently close games against Manchester City has put Bristol City on the map, and nobody would begrudge them a Premier League spot next season.
They do however need to change their league form around since the start of the New Year. 1 win in their last 5 league outings (including a 5-0 drubbing at the hands of Aston Villa) has seen Bristol fall to 5th in the table. With games coming up against Fulham and Cardiff, it is important they pick up 3 points here. Lee Johnson has brought French striker Lois Diony in on loan from St. Etienne, and will be hoping that he can have a positive impact right off the bat.
- Jem Karacan and Darren Pratley are both missing through injury for Bolton.
- Nathan Baker is missing through suspension, whilst Frank Fielding, Ivan Lucic, & Callum O’Dowda are still missing for Bristol City.
