Cardiff City take on Burnley on Sunday afternoon and the Bluebirds will be fancying their chances in gaining a first win of the season. Cardiff have struggled so far this season with only 2 points gained in 6 games. Cardiff have had issues in attack with only 3 goals scored so far this season and 14 conceded. Manager, Neil Warnock, is still in good spirits and he’ll fancy his chances of getting a first win of the season against a Burnley side who have started slowly but picked up a big 3 points against Bournemouth last time out.
Burnley’s 4-0 gubbing of Bournemouth reminded most of us that the Clarets are much better than their early season form had suggested. Matej Vydra opened his Premier League account last time out and the Czech Republic forward is 13/2 (BetVictor). Vydra was one of the best forwards in the Championship last season and he scored in his last match against Cardiff for his previous club Derby County.
Cardiff as I mentioned before will fancy their chances against Burnley. The Bluebirds are unbeaten in 10 games at home against the Clarets. Cardiff put in a spirited performance against Arsenal at home earlier in the season and a repeat of that would put them in a good position in this game. Striker, Danny Ward has put in some impressive performances this season in a lone striker roll and he’ll most likely be the best chance of a goal again on Sunday afternoon. Ward is 15/2 (MarathonBet) to score first in the match and 33/10 (PaddyPower) to score at any time in the match.
Burnley will be searching for a 3rd clean sheet in 11 matches in all competitions when they take on the Bluebirds on Sunday. The clarets have conceded an average of 1.7 goals per game during that time. Both teams to score in the match is priced at 11/10 (Betfair).
Cardiff City right-back Lee Peltier dislocated his shoulder against Manchester City last weekend and faces up to three months out.
Aron Gunnarsson remains sidelined with a knee injury but Sol Bamba is expected to return in defence.
Burnley midfielder Steven Defour could feature, having played his first game since January in Tuesday’s League Cup defeat against Burton Albion.
Robbie Brady and Ben Gibson remain unavailable due to injury.
Potential Cardiff Starting XI: Etheridge, Richards, Morrison, Ecuele, Cunningham, Hoilett, Camarasa, Ralls, Arter, Reid, Ward
Potential Burnley Starting XI: Hart, Lowton, Tarkowski, Mee, Taylor, Lennon, Westwood, Cork, Gudmundson, Vydra, Vokes.
Head To Head
- Cardiff are unbeaten against Burnley since 2007 and are unbeaten in 10 games at home against the Clarets.
Key Stats & Facts
- Cardiff have conceded an equal number of goals in the first and second halves of Premier League matches this season.
- Burnley have scored 72% of their goals this season before half-time.
- Cardiff City 11/2
- Draw 39/11
- Arsenal 4/7
This is definitely not the most glamorous tie of the weekend but there could be goals from both sides in what should be a physical affair. Cardiff have a big chance to get 3 points for the first time this season and hopefully that will lead to an open game.
