The Old Firm derby is back for its third instalment of the year on Sunday with the hosts, Celtic, holding a commanding 10-point lead at the top of the table. A win for the home side here would surely all but wrap up the title barring any disasters.
The last match between these two sides ended with Rangers winning 1-0 and for a time it looked like Rangers would mount a serious title challenge. Since then the Gers have been in good form losing 1 match in the league, however they have drawn 4 games which has helped create the 10-point gap.
Celtic are unbeaten in the league since that Old Firm defeat, the hoops have also only conceded 2 goals in the league during this run which is mightily impressive, Celtic are also unbeaten at home in the league this season (W14, D1).
Celtic will be without Eboue Kouassi and Daniel Arzani, who are out for the rest of the season. Ryan Christie remains a doubt for this game, but Kieran Tierney, Oliver Ntcham and Tom Rogic are expected to return for Sunday’s game.
Jamie Murphy remains side-lined for this game and he is joined by Borna Barisic. Ryan Jack and Scott Arfield are also a doubt for this game.
Potential Celtic Starting XI: Bain, Tolijan, Lustig, Ajer, Tierney, Brown, McGregor, Forrest, Johnston, Sinlcair, Edouard
Potential Rangers Starting XI: McGregor, Tavernier, Goldson, Katic, Halliday, Coulibaly, Kamara, Davis, Candeias, Morelos, Kent
Head To Head
- This is the 416th Old Firm derby.
- Rangers haven’t managed to win at Celtic park since 2010.
Key Stats & Facts
- Celtic are yet to concede a first-half home goal in the league this season.
- Both teams have scored in 6 of Rangers’ last 10 competitive away games.
- Celtic 3/4
- Draw 13/5
- Rangers 4/1
Celtic will be itching to avenge their 1-0 defeat to Rangers at the end of last year and they are 3/4 (Bet3565) to get the victory against their fierce rivals on Sunday. The price for Celtic to win I think is a good one, they’re the top team in the league and are in terrific form I think it’s only this game being a derby game which prevents Celtic from being shorter priced favourites. With form that Celtic are in combined with their home form and the chance to all but wrap the title up I would be siding them to win this game.
Rangers have had a poor recent record at Celtic park, they have lost their last 3 games there and they have failed to score a goal in any of those 3 meetings. They’ll be needing that to change on Sunday and they have been in decent form in front of goal of late. However, they’ll be up against a Celtic side who look rejuvenated since the defeat at Ibrox. Celtic have kept 3 clean sheets in their last 3 games and have only conceded 4 goals all calendar year. A Celtic win to nil is priced at 2/1 (Skybet) and I think that’s a decent punt with the record that Rangers have at Celtic Park in the recent past.
Cards in derby matches are always expected and I think this game will be in keeping with that. There have been at least 4 yellow cards in each of the last 5 meetings between the 2 sides. Now this might be a really obvious choice, but Scott Brown is 29/20 (Betvictor) to be shown a card on Sunday and I think that is a bet worth backing. Brown has 9 yellow cards and 1 red card in 23 league matches played this season. He’ll be looked upon again to help whip the crowd up with some tough tackling and he’ll be a prime candidate to find his way into the referee’s book once again.
