Arsenal are the visitors to West London after a calamitous performance away at 2nd tier Nottingham Forest going down 4-2. That was a much changed Gunners side so the big players should be back for this tie, nevertheless Arsenal aren’t backable away from home. Arsenal tend to struggle at the bridge with a (W1, D1, L7) record in their last 9 trips there, given this is a two-legged affair they will go and try keep it tight, Arsene Wenger has said as much. However, how can you trust this defence to keep a clean sheet?
Antonio Conte is eyeing up more silverware to add to his CV with Chelsea, and this is a major chance to do just that. His side conceded a 90th minute equaliser last week in this reverse fixture in the league, a game that Chelsea could’ve snatched if it wasn’t for Alvaro Morata’s profligacy in front of goal. Timeoue Bakayoko struggled to stay with the Arsenal runners in that game and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Conte revert to a more trustworthy figure such as Danny Drinkwater to partner N’golo Kante in the engine room.
Chelsea look a bit too short at best price 8/11 to win this in the outright market so I’m looking for ways to boost that price and for all Arsenal’s defensive failings they can be mesmeric going forward so they’re capable of getting on the scoresheet here.
Eden Hazard has shaken off a slight injury and should start here. Otherwise the blues have a fit squad.
Granit Xhaka and Shrokdan Mustafi are 50/50 to start this one after picking up knocks in the last week or so.
Chelsea Potential Starting XI – Courtois, Cahill, Christensen, Azpilicueta, Alonso, Fàbregas, Kanté, Bakayoko, Moses, Hazard, Morata
Arsenal Potential Starting XI – Ospina, Holding, Mustafi, Chambers, Maitland-Niles, Wilshere, Xhaka, Bellerín, Welbeck, Sánchez, Lacazette
