Chelsea v Barcelona Betting Preview
Venue: Stamford Bridge
Channel: BT Sport
Chelsea welcome Barcelona to Stamford Bridge with a terrific record against Spanish sides at home, they have lost only 2 of 16 games on home soil against Spanish opposition and they will need to continue the trend here to have any chance of qualifying, for which they are a 5/2 shot to do so.
Despite a bit of a blip where they were knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Arsenal and lost consecutive league games to Watford and Chelsea, Conte’s men seem to be back on track having taken care of Albion in the league and Hull in the FA Cup in their last two games with a combined score of 7-0 in those matches. However, neither side are of the calibre of Chelsea’s upcoming opponents (both Manchester United and Manchester City follow the Barcelona tie), with a period that could determine Chelsea’s season and Conte’s future.
Barcelona enter this game having only lost one game all season in all competitions and they have built a 17point gap between themselves and 4th place Real Madrid in La Liga. While Messi and Suarez continue to star up front, Barcelona’s defensive record has mirrored their displays, conceding just 14 goals in 38 competitive fixtures this season. Ernesto Valverde’s side have only conceded 2 goals in their last 8 games and are yet to concede on the road in the Champions League this season.
While Barcelona have been impressive so far this season, their recent record against Chelsea has been anything but. They have failed to win in the last seven meetings between the sides, while Messi is yet to even score against the Blues (his worst such record against an opponent).
While Bakayoko is unlikely to feature there is a good chance Alonso may return. Conte will have to decide between Morata and Giroud while Willian is pushing for a start after impressing against Norwich.
Barcelona are without the ineligible Coutinho but Dembele is fit enough to travel with the squad and could be given the nod to start.
Possible Chelsea Starting Eleven: Courtois; Azpilicueta, Christensen, Rudiger; Moses, Kante, Fabregas, Alonso; Hazard, Willian, Morata.
Possible Barcelona Starting Eleven: ter Stegen; Roberto, Pique, Umtiti, Alba; Busquets, Rakitic, Iniesta; Dembele, Messi, Suarez.
