Two Premier League giants meet at Stamford Bridge this Saturday with multiple talking points upon the horizon. Firstly, Manchester United, Jose Mourinho, is facing some doubts regarding his position as manager of the club and will return to his old stomping ground to hopefully get a win against The Blues.
Within this fixture last season, Chelsea recorded a 1-0 win over The Red Devils and the season prior to that resulted in a 4-0 victory for the west London side. Therefore, it appears that both Jose Mourinho and Manchester United have struggled against Maurizio Sarri’s side.
Despite a shock comeback against Newcastle United and a last-minute header from Alexis Sanchez, United have struggled as of late. The Red Devils suffered a surprise defeat at the hands of West Ham United just a few weeks ago whilst also crashing out of the League Cup to a Frank Lampard inspired Derby.
Based upon previous results, current form and other factors, Chelsea should ease to victory. Regarding the Blues previous form, Sarri’s side has scored 18 goals in just eight Premier League fixtures, whilst record signing, Kepa Arrizabalaga, has conceded just five goals this season.
In addition to this, Chelsea have kept eight clean sheets this season which, bearing in mind Jose Mourinho’s defensive philosophy, leads us to believe that it won’t be a high scoring game or a busy afternoon for Kepa.
Antonio Rudiger is unlikely to feature for The Blues following an injury he picked up on international duty, much like Ethan Ampadu with a knee strain. Both Luke Shaw and Nemanja Matic skipped international duty to aid their recovery for their ankle injuries and should be in contention for selection come Saturday.
Potential Chelsea Starting XI: Kepa; Azpilicueta, Cahill, Luiz, Alonso; Kante, Jorginho, Kovacic; Willian, Giroud, Hazard
Potential Manchester United Starting XI: De Gea; Young, Bailly, Smalling, Shaw; Pogba, Matic, Fellaini; Sanchez, Lukaku, Martial
Head To Head
- As previously mentioned, The Blues have defeated United twice at Stamford Bridge in their last two meetings. However, Manchester United did manage to overturn Chelsea 2-1 at Old Trafford last season.
Key Stats & Facts
- Manchester United haven’t scored at Stamford Bridge since February 2016.
- Manchester United haven’t won at Stamford Bridge since 2012.
- Chelsea – 8/11
- Draw – 11/4
- Man United – 15/4
Hazard and Chelsea are in scintillating form right now and that’s only going to continue against Manchester United in my opinion. Chelsea have kept a host of clean sheets this season and United have somewhat struggled in front of a goal recently.
