Chelsea host Premier League newcomers, Sheffield United, on Saturday looking to pick up another 3 points after their victory on the road against Norwich. The Blues looked impressive going forward, but they once again looked shaky at the back.
The Blues are big favourites to win on Saturday and they will be looking to add to their 10-game unbeaten home run. The Blues have also seen three of their last four home wins over newcomers yield precisely a two-goal margin.
Sheffield United lost 2-1 to Leicester at the weekend and they’ll be looking to take advantage of any weakness that Chelsea have. United play an attacking style of football and I don’t see that changing at this point in the season. The pressure will be off the Blades and I think that will make for an end to end game.
Chelsea will be without Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Pedro who are out with injuries. They all have question marks over Calum Hudson-Odoi and Ngolo Kante.
Sheffield United have doubts over Midfielder, John Fleck.
Potential Chelsea Starting XI: Kepa, Azpilicueta, Christensen, Zouma, Emerson, Barkely, Jorginho, Kovacic, Mount, Abraham, Pulisic
Potential Sheffield United Starting XI: Henderson, Basham, Egan, O’Connell, Baldock, Lundstram, Norwood, Freeman, Stevens, McGoldrick, Robinson
Key Stats & Facts
- Four of Chelsea’s last five PL home games against newly promoted sides have seen exactly two match goals.
- Chelsea have not lost at home to a newly promoted side in the league since 2015.
- Chelsea 1/3
- Draw 4/1
- Sheffield United 17/2
This game could be a bit trickier for Chelsea than the odds suggest. They haven’t looked completely stable without the ball and I think there could be plenty of chances for Sheffield United on Saturday afternoon.
I do fancy Chelsea to win this match, but I think Sheffield United will find the back of the net. Chelsea to win the game and both teams to score is 9/4 (Betway) and I think that’s a good angle considering the pattern in which Chelsea’s games have panned out so far this season. Sheffield United have also scored at least one goal in their past 6 competitive away games.
Young Midfielder, Mason Mount, has a had a great start to the season in front of goal and I think he’ll be able to get himself on the scoresheet again. He has 2 goals in his last 3 games and has linked up well behind the striker. Mount is 9/4 (Skybet) to score at any time in this match. Mount has managed 4 shots per game this season so if that trend continues, we should get some value for our money.
In the Card market I like the angle of Sheffield United midfielder, Oliver Norwood, to be shown a card in the game. Norwood picked up 11 yellow cards last season which is a card nearly every 4 games. Having gone 3 games without a card so far this season I’m hoping the trend from last season carries on. Norwood is 16/5 (BetVictor) to be shown a card in the game.
