Competition favourites Chelsea return to Europa League action on Thursday evening with the visit of Hungarian outfit Vidi to London.

Chelsea began their European campaign with a professional 1-0 win away to Greek side PAOK thanks to a first half goal by Willian and sit joint top of Group L. In truth, The Blues could and maybe should have won more convincingly had they been more ruthless in front of goal, posting 20 attempts.

There’s a real buzz and optimism around Stamford Bridge right now. The players seem to have adapted extremely well to Sarri’s exciting and attacking style of football and enter Thursday’s tie unbeaten in all competitions this season (W7-D2-L0).

Meanwhile Vidi, who have already played double the amount of games than their opponents (including 8 Champions League qualifiers), suffered a 2-0 defeat at home to BATE in their opening Europa League fixture two weeks ago.

Vidi have won just 2 of their 18 fixtures in the Europa League (D6-L10) and have failed to score in half of those games (19).

Manager Marko Nikolić, whose side can be backed at 40/1 to come away with a victory, will be hoping to cause what would be one of the biggest upsets in the competition’s history.

Team News

Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Pedro will be assessed on the day of the game.

Vidi are expected to line-up similar to the team that faced BATE in the opening round.

Potential Chelsea Starting XI: Arrizabalaga, Alonso, Cahill, Rüdiger, Zappacosta, Barkley, Jorginho, Fàbregas, Willian, Morata, Moses

Potential Vidi Starting XI: Tujvel, Stopira, Vinicius, Juhász, Fiola, Nikolov, Hadzic, Nego, Kovács, Milanov, Scepovi

Head To Head

  • The two sides have never met before.

Key Stats & Facts

  • Chelsea have never lost at home in the Europa League (W6-D2)
  • Vidi have failed to win any of their last 6 away Europa League.

Betting Odds

  • Chelsea 1/9
  • Draw 11/1
  • Vidi 40/1

The Verdict

This will be a great opportunity for some of Chelsea’s fringe players to make an impact so motivation will be high to create plenty of opportunities and score goals.

One player in particular who will be looking to impress is Ross Barkley, who arguably boasted his best performance in a Chelsea shirt against PAOK in the last matchday where he played the full 90 minutes and did in fact provide the assist for Willian’s goal.

The 24-year-old is as low as 6/4 with some bookmakers to score anytime, while Betfred are offering odds of 3/1 which looks good value considering the opposition and number of chances we can expect Chelsea to create.

Recommended Bets

  • Chelsea To Win Both Halves – 4/5 (Betfair)
  • Ross Barkley To Score Anytime
