Chelsea will be looking to bounce back after their disappointing home defeat to London rivals Spurs last weekend and they do have one of the weaker teams in the division to face at Stamford Bridge in the form of West Ham. Antonio Conte has seen his side slip out of top four contention after a poor seven game run in the league (W2, L5) and with games running out fast they find themselves in no mans land.
What’s been striking about this Blues’ side is the lack of urgency and to me it looks like a team full of players looking forward to the World Cup or a move away. In addition, it looks inevitable that Conte will be saying goodbye at the end of the season as Roman Abramovich employs his usually managerial turn around every few years, you have to question the determination and will to win in this side from the top down.
West Ham ran out comfortably winners last time out dispatching Southampton 3-0, a much needed win at the Olympic Stadium. Marko Arnautovic starred in that win as more of a focal point and he’s likely to adopt that role again here and you’d expect David Moyes to pack that midfield and make it hard for Chelsea.
I think the 12/1 quotes on the hammers are a bit too big given the Blues’ current plight and the confidence that will come for the Hammers after that big win, the chunky price on the visitors allows us to back Moyes’ side on the +1.5 Asian handicap line at an odds against price of 9/8 with BetVictor. This selection will pay out should West Ham win, draw or even lose by a single goal.
David Luiz is ruled out for the hosts but Pedro and Thibaut Courtois could return.
Michael Antonio is ruled out for the rest of the campaign while Manuel Lanzini is a doubt.
Potential Chelsea Starting XI: Courtois, Moses, Azpilicueta, Christiansen, Rudiger, Alonso, Kante, Fabregas, Hazard, Morata, Willian.
Potential West Ham Starting XI: Hart, Zabaleta, Rice, Ogbonna, Cresswell, Masuaku, Noble, Kouyate, Mario, Hernandez, Arnautovic.
