Croatia host Greece in the first-leg of their vital World Cup qualifiying play-off clash in Zagreb. Croatia had a disappointing end to their qualifying group as they underperformed and finished below Iceland. They finished second and are therefore facing Greece in a play-off with the winners heading to Russia. They’re strong favourites to qualify but the pressure will be on, and Greece have memorably upset the odds before.
Greece won the battle against Bosnia-Herzegovina to make it second in the group behind Belgium. They finished nine points behind Belgium but crucially gained two more points than Bosnia.
Greece boast a formidable defence and will be hard to break down. They are a well-drilled unit with Manolas and Sokratis a key part of that. They do struggle to score goals and the Croats should dominate possession.
No injuries of note. Croatia have firepower in Mandzukic, Modric and Perisic and they are all available.
Potential Croatia Starting XI: Subasic; Vrsalijko, Vida, Mitrovic, Strinic; Modric, Rakitic; Brozovic, Kramaric, Perisic; Mandzukic;
Potential Greece Starting XI: Karnezis; Stafylidis, Papdopoulos, Sokratis, Torosidis; Tachtsidis, Tziolis, Zeca, Christodoulopoulos; Fortounis, Mitroglou
