Derby v Sunderland Championship Betting Preview
Venue: iPro Stadium
Derby take on Sunderland on Good Friday in the Championship with both sides in need of the points for different reasons.
Sunderland are running out of time to save themselves from a second successive relegation as they remain rooted to the bottom of the table with just eight games left this season.
These two sides met on the opening day of the season when there was an air of optimism for both clubs ahead of the new campaign, but that air seems to have evaporated in recent weeks
The Black Cats have failed to win any of their last ten games and find themselves five points adrift of safety and looking like they are heading for the third tier of English football.
Derby are currently in fifth spot and dreaming of promotion to the Premier League, but they are battling to secure a play-off spot.
At the turn of the year Derby looked well-placed for automatic promotion only for a poor run of form see those hopes fade away and now they are in real danger of missing out altogether as they have just a point cushion in the race for a top six finish.
Derby have not won in their last seven games, although five of those were draws and that has seen Gary Rowett’s side fail to keep pace with Wolves and Cardiff at the top of the table.
Derby County have top scorer Matej Vydra fit again, while on-loan midfielder Kasey Palmer (knee) will be assessed.
Tom Huddlestone serves a one-game ban, but Joe Ledley, George Thorne, Tom Lawrence, Cameron Jerome, Richard Keogh and David Nugent are all set to return.
Sunderland are without striker Joel Asoro, who suffered a head injury on duty for Sweden’s Under-21 side.
Jake Clarke-Salter is banned and fellow defender Billy Jones (knee) is out, but Marc Wilson (groin) could return.
Jonny Williams (quad), Paddy McNair and Duncan Watmore (both knee) remain long-term absentees as they recover from long term injuries
Darron Gibson is available to Chris Coleman after he was suspended by the club following a drink-driving charge.
Potential Derby Starting XI: Derby 4-4-2 formation: Carson; Wisdom, Davies, Keogh, Forsyth; Johnson, Palmer, Lawrence, Anya; Jerome, Vydra
Potential Sunderland Starting XI: Sunderland 4-4-2 formation: Camp; Matthews, O’Shea, Kone; Oviedo, Cattermole, Ejaria, McGeady; Lua Lua, Maja, Fletcher
