England v Slovenia Betting Preview
Venue: Wembley Stadium
Group F leaders England play host to 3rd placed Slovenia at Wembley Stadium in the latest World Cup qualifier on Thursday night.
Gareth Southgate’s side remain unbeaten this campaign, having so far amassed 20 points and are going into the game knowing that a win will secure qualification for next year’s World Cup in Russia.
The teams last met in October 2016, as England relied on a Joe Hart wonder performance in Ljubljana to keep the score at 0-0. The now West Ham United stopper made a string of fine saves, most notably making an incredible diving sprawl to his left hand side to claw out an effort from Atalanta midfielder Jasmin Kurtić.
The Three Lions will be hoping the brilliant Harry Kane continues to deliver after the Spurs striker was heralded this week by former England captain Steven Gerrard, who christened him: “The in-form player in world football.”
Kane scored 13 goals for club and country in September and will be looking to beat the formidable Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak on Thursday night.
Oblak has been an ever present in a stubborn Slovenian side that has only conceded four goals in eight games during this campaign.
England will be without their first choice ‘number 10’ Dele Alli, who is suspended following a middle finger gesture he made during the 2-1 defeat of Slovakia.
Ross Barkley and Adam Lallana are still out, and with Wayne Rooney no longer available through retirement, England are left with a lack of attacking midfield options and are likely to start with a 4-3-3 formation.
Phil Jones and Fabian Delph have both returned to Manchester following injuries, leaving room for Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks to receive his first full international call-up.
Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford looks set to start after impressing so far this season for club and country and Ryan Bertrand should play at left back.
Potential England Starting XI: Hart, Walker, Stones, Cahill, Bertrand, Henderson, Dier, Livermore, Sterling, Rashford, Kane.
Potential Slovenia Starting XI: Oblak, Skubic, Mevlja, Cesar, Viler, Rotman, Repas, Verbic, Kurtic, Ilicic, Sporar.
