Everton host an injury-struck Liverpool in the latest Merseyside Derby this Saturday as the Toffees look to beat Liverpool for the first time in eight years.
Liverpool are unbeaten against their bitter city rivals since 2010, a run stretching over 16 games – 14 of those have come in the league, with there being eight draws and six Liverpool wins. The last four league games have seen Liverpool win three times but the points were shared at Anfield back in December, when a Wayne Rooney penalty salvaged a draw for Everton.
Liverpool have their injury problems at the moment as the fixtures start to pile up. Their incredible 3-0 win over Manchester City in the first-leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie came at a price, with top scorer Mo Salah limping off and making him a doubt for this game. Klopp has the second-leg to prepare for on Tuesday which could see some changes made in this match, considering their top 4 place is looking all but assured with six games to go.
Everton have improved of late, especially at home. They have won three of their last four games at Goodison and are unbeaten in four of their last five home games against Liverpool. They were comfortably beaten by City in their last game and looked extremely poor defensively and struggled to create anything going forward.
Their have been plenty of draws between these two sides in recent years and the potential for Liverpool to be without some key players could make the draw at 11/4 a promising bet in this game. Both teams to score has resulted in six of the last 10 but over 2.5 goals has resulted in 5 of the last 10 so goals are not likely. Liverpool’s thoughts will very much be on next week’s game against City but they should still be strong enough to avoid defeat.
Ashley Williams returns from his suspension and Idrissa Gueye and Tom Davies could return from injuries. Everton remain without Mason Holgate, Eliaquim Mangala, Gylfi Sigurdsson and James McCarthy.
Liverpool are without defensive trio Joel Matip, Joe Gomez and Ragnar Klavan, leaving Klopp with just two fit centre-halves. Emre Can and Mo Salah are doubts for the game whilst Adam Lallana is also out for the Reds.
Potential Everton Starting XI: Pickford; Coleman, Keane, Williams, Baines; Gueye, Schneiderlin; Walcott, Rooney, Bolasie; Tosun
Potential Liverpool Starting XI: Karius; Alexander-Arnold, Lovren, Van Dijk, Moreno; Milner, Henderson, Wijnaldum; Chamberlain, Firmino, Mane
