Everton v Newcastle Betting Preview
Rafa Benitez has done a sterling job at Newcastle this season and they’re all but safe from relegation. Their squad was not bolstered in the summer making their prospective survival all the more impressive. Rafa has made the Toon Army difficult to beat, organised and hard working. They’re a team in good form I can understand why people would fancy them in this tie, especially against an Everton side in no mans land.
The current atmosphere at Goodison Park is a strange one, the majority of fans do not want Sam Allardyce to stay on as manager next season as they don’t like his direct approach to games. Ownership at the club previously tried a fashionable name in Ronald Koeman and that didn’t work out so it’s a big decision come the summer for the hierarchy at Goodison. Ultimately though, Allardyce was given a brief to get the Toffees out of relegation trouble and he has achieved that, however in the long term it feels like a relationship that could become toxic. On the pitch Everton have been so-so, they’re tighter at the back than they were under Koeman so this is a game I’d want to side with few goals given the two managers’ profiles.
Under 2.5 goals is available to back at 4/5 with Marathon Bet and that looks a nice angle. Newcastle will set up to be strong defensively and compact in midfield and Everton don’t have much craft going forward and may find it hard to break them down, particularly without Gylfi Sigurdsson.
Gylfi Siggurdson and Mason Holgate remain sidelined for the hosts.
Christian Atsu is out with a knee problem for Newcastle.
Potential Everton Starting XI: Pickford, Coleman, Jagielka, Keane, Baines, Schneiderlin, Gueye, Bolasie, Rooney, Walcott, Tosun.
