France still need a victory against Belarus when the two sides meet in Group A of the World Cup qualifiers on Tuesdays, despite having already qualified.
France lead the group having previously beat Sweden 2-1, Luxembourg 3-1 and doing the double over the Netherlands including a 4-0 victory at the Stade de France. A 0-0 draw with Luxembourg was amended by a 1-0 victory over Bulgaria, France’s fifth clean-sheet in nine qualifying matches.
Laurent Koscielny was rested for Les Bleus in that victory against Bulgaria, despite being included in the squad so will no doubt make an appearance. Madrid centre half, Rafael Varane, was recalled by Didier Deschamps and helped keep the most recent clean-sheet alongside Barcalona’s Samuel Umtiti so France will no doubt prove tough to break down.
Belarus have failed to score on five out of nine occasions, including two 4-0 defeats to Sweden, and won’t likely improve their fortunes from their previous 0-0 meeting with the Group leaders France.
3 defeats in a row mean Belarus cannot qualify for the Russia World Cup, having scored just once in those three outings.
Didier Deschamps has never fielded the same starting 11 for any of France’s previous qualifiers.
N’Golo Kante is missing for Les Bleus through injury.
United duo Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial are not included in the France 23-man squad.
Potential France Starting XI: Lloris, Kurzawa, Koscielny, Varane, Sidibe, Matuidi, Tolisso, Lemar, Griezmann, Mbappe, Giroud
Potential Belarus Starting XI: Chernik, Rios, Palitsevic, Yanushkevich, Valadzko, Mayewski, Drahun, Burko, Karnitsky, Stasevic, Saroka
