Two giants of World football meet in this pre-world cup friendly hosted on the French Riviera in Nice; Surprisingly, though, only one of these countries will be competing in Russia. Italy failed to qualify under coach Ventura and he was subsequently sacked, he has only recently been replaced by ex Man City and Zenit boss Roberto Mancini. Mancini himself had a poor season with the St Petersburg club, finishing 5th domestically and failing to seriously compete in the Europa League. Some might say he has been very lucky to end up in this situation.

France have managerial problems of their own, fans of Les Bleus have been annoyed by the lack of ambition and tactical astuteness displayed by the former Marseille man. Their squad is brimming with quality all over the park, especially going forward but Deschamps continues to be quite direct and start Olivier Giroud up front. To be fair, when he’s been called upon Giroud has been excellent and his scoring record is actually very decent. I’d say it’s more frustration from the native public that they can’t fit the likes of Florian Thauvin, Kylian M’bappe, Ousmane Dembele and Nabil Fekir all into the starting line up.

Knowing the team lineups for this clash is difficult, for France I’d expect a bit of rotation with 3 possibly 4 changes from the team that beat Ireland earlier in the week. Paul Pogba, N’golo Kante and Griezmann all didn’t start against Ireland but they may well do here. With the World Cup on the horizon, Deschamps will want his first XI to be getting used to each other so don’t expect a mass overhaul. For Italy, they could make a number of changes as there’s not much in this for them. Divisive striker Mario Balotelli will be playing on home soil here as a Nice player and he will want to make his mark as he did in the week against Saudi Arabia.

I’d expect France to win this one, but with it being a friendly it’s hard to touch 4/6 quotes so I’ll look for a bigger price. I wouldn’t expect France to run away with this mind so I’ll have a go on France to score exactly 2 goals which is available to back at 12/5. This bet would’ve come in for 5 of their last 6 games.
