Inter’s quest to secure third place in the league continues this weekend, as they travel to second-bottom, Frosinone, on Sunday evening.
The away side are seven point off survival, but consecutive wins has provided them with a glimmer of hope that the impossible could be performed.
They would need to win the remainder of their games and hope that teams above them fail to do so if they are to have a chance and they are very much up against it this weekend.
Inter are five points clear of fourth placed Milan and Champions League football looks set to be on the calendar again next season. They have had a typically Inter like campaign so far – incredibly poor some games and incredibly good others – but this should be a game they win with some room left over.
But as I have said, they are an inconsistent side and no result would ever surprise me with Inter. The home side are still battling for their Serie A status and they did win away in Florence last weekend, which will give them some confidence that they can repeat their heroics at home against Luciano Spaletti’s men.
Neither side have any fresh injury concerns but there are selection headaches for both managers. Lautaro Martinez and Stefan De Vrij are both back to fitness here for Inter but Mauro Icardi scored on his return last weekend and could get another start.
Potential Frosinone Starting XI: Sportiello; Goldaniga, Salamon, Capuano; Paganini, Chibsah, Sammarco, Valzania, Beghetto; Ciano, Pinamonti
Potential Inter Starting XI: Handanovic; D’Ambrosio, Miranda, Skriniar, Asamoah; Vecino, Borja Valero; Politano, Naingggolan, Perisic; Martinez
Head To Head
These two have played just the three games against each other, with Inter winning all three, without Frosinone scoring a goal.
Key Stats & Facts
- There have been over 2.5 goals scored in Inter’s last four away games.
- Frosinone have conceded the third most goals in the league with 56.
- Inter have the second best defensive record, conceding just 25 goals all season.
- Milan – 33/20
- Draw – 12/5
- Lazio – 15/8
This game does look relatively straight-forward for Inter on paper. They are playing against a side with just five wins all season, second-bottom of the league and have conceded well over 50 goals already, with still seven games to go. The price available on Inter, 63/100 best price, all things considered, is actually a good price but I am going to find a way to boost that price slightly.
Inter concede, on average, 0.8 goals a game and score 1.5 per game, compared to Frosinone, who concede 1.8 and score just 0.8, so the averages tell you that it is unlikely this will be a game full of goals. Inter to win and over 1.5 goals at 10/11 looks appealing, therefore, especially as Inter are comfortably in third place and have little pressure on them here.
