Hull will be looking to bounce back from their defeat at West Brom by beating fellow Yorkshire outfit Sheffield United who are in the hunt for automatic promotion.
The hosts saw their play-off hopes dashed following their loss at the Hawthorns, but they will no doubt take great pleasure in crushing the Blades’ promotion hopes.
Despite off the field issues, Nigel Adkins has managed to lead the Tigers to a decent campaign where they currently sit in 10th spot.
United, on the other hand, took advantage of Leeds’ slip-up to Wigan as they ran out 2-0 winners against Nottingham Forest and regained the second automatic promotion spot.
The Blades sit on 82 points, the same tally as Leeds, but have a superior goal difference which means that if Chris Wilder’s side can do the job in the remaining three games they should go up automatically.
However, like Leeds, Sheffield United have shown that they’re susceptible to a slip-up and will be looking to send out a message to their rivals by putting a decent Hull side to the sword.
Hull will miss Markus Henriksen and Reece Burke who were both injured last time out against West Brom with Nigel Adkins admitting it’s unlikely the pair will feature on Monday.
The visitors will have to make do without leading goalscorer Billy Sharp – who is suffering with a hamstring injury – and Chris Basham who also has a hamstring problem. John Egan will be back in contention after serving his suspension.
Potential Hull City Starting XI: Marshall, Kane, McKenzie, De Wijs, Lichaj, Bowen, Batty, Stewart, Grosicki, Irvine, Campbell
Potential Sheffield United Starting XI: Henderson, O’Connell, Stearman, Cranie, Baldock, Norwood, Fleck, Stevens, Duffy, Madine, McGoldrick
Head To Head
- Hull 20, Draws 19, Sheffield United 30.
- Hull have won four of their last six against United.
- The reverse fixture saw the Blades run out 1-0 winners.
Key Stats & Facts
- Hull have only lost five of their 21 home league games this season.
- Sheffield United have the third best away record in the division – picking up 36 points from a possible 63.
- The Blades have also been clinical on the road, boasting the joint-second best goalscoring record away from home with 33 goals in 21 games.
- Hull City 11/4
- Draw 49/18
- Sheffield United 21/20
Chris Wilder will be aware that any slip-up at this point in the season would be detrimental to their promotion hopes especially with rivals Leeds ready to pounce.
A 2-0 win last time out against Forest saw the Blades get back to winning ways after two draws and now they occupy the second spot in the division, they’ll be desperate not to lose it this late on in the campaign.
Mark Duffy has shown his class once again this season, with the midfielder netting six in the league this season, and he’ll be looking to breach the Hull back-line as he did to Forest last time out.
While Hull do boast a strong home record this season, there should be goals in this clash and Sheffield United will fancy themselves to come out on top.
Marathon Bet offers the best odds on both teams to score and Sheffield United to win at 72/25.
David McGoldrick will also be eager to add to his tally of 13 goals this season and with no Billy Sharp in the squad, he’ll be looking to steal the show. You can back McGoldrick to score in the clash at 13/8 with Bet365.
