The first heavyweight contest of the season in Serie A takes place this weekend, as title hopefuls, Napoli, travel to the Allianz Stadium to face the Champions, Juventus.
The summer has seen both clubs makes big moves in the transfer market, especially Napoli, who have signed a couple of extremely talented players. Hirving Lozano moved to the club in the last two weeks, joining Konstantinos Manolas, both of whom make Napoli even stronger.
Juventus’ opened the season with a 1-0 win away at Parma, whilst Napoli took part in a seven-goal thriller, in which they triumphed 4-3 in Florence against Fiorentina.
Maurizio Sarri, the Old Lady’s new manager, will need time to sort out his preferred starting eleven and he is still getting to grips with the new style of play. What he will have up his sleeve, is an idea of how Napoli will play, having been their manager just a few seasons ago, which could play into his hands.
I do, personally, feel that Napoli will end the Bianconeri’s reign in Italy this season and this match comes at a perfect time for the away side, who will be bang up for this one and will be thinking they have a great chance to lay down an early marker.
Matthijs de Ligt is likely to remain on the bench for the time-being, with Leonardo Bonucci expected to continue. Paulo Dybala’s future remains uncertain, so will likely sit out until that is resolved.
Arkaduisz Milik is back after missing the opener last weekend against Fiorentina but will likely make an impact from the bench, as will new signing Hirving Lozano, who is still waiting to make his debut.
Potential Juventus Starting XI: Szczesny; Sciglio, Bonucci, Chiellini, Sandro; Khedira, Pjanic, Matuidi; Costa, Higuain, Ronaldo
Potential Napoli Starting XI: Meret; Lorenzo, Manolas, Koulibaly, Ghoulam; Allan; Callejon, Zielinksi, Ruiz, Insigne; Mertens
Napoli’s H2H record against Juventus is not brilliant, having won just 12 of the 46 matches played between them in all competitions. Napoli have only even won away in Turin three times in the modern era and only once in the last five years.
Key Stats & Facts
- Juventus are undefeated in their last 21 home matches.
- Juventus have won five of their last six against Napoli in all competitions.
- Juventus – EVENS
- Draw – 61/25
- Napoli – 17/5
Like I said, I fancy Napoli this season. I think they have all the ingredients to win the title, they have two world-class centre-halves in Manolas and Koulibaly, as well as a hard-working midfield and goal-scorers and attacking threats up top in Milik, Metens, Insigne and Zielinksi.
Juventus have the best squad in the league, however, but I do feel that the unrest amongst some of the players, a new manager and such a desire to win the Champions League, they will finally be beaten.
Having said that, EVENS on Juventus in the Serie A at HOME is something I am not sure I have seen before, which makes them a really tempting bet. I fancy Napoli to win after scoring so freely last weekend and they will have plenty of confidence going forward and the likes of Bonucci and Chiellini will struggle against the pace of the Napoli attack.
Therefore, my bet for this weekend is on the visitors. Their hasn’t been a draw in this fixture since 2013 so I think the draw no bet on Napoli at 2/1 is a good play with that in mind, meaning we get our money back if the result goes against the trend.
