Lazio v Inter Milan Betting Preview
Date: 20th May
Venue: Stadio Olimpico
Channel: BT Sport 1
In the final Serie A game-week Lazio host Inter Milan in an un-official Champions League play-off match. The home side currently occupies 4th place whilst visitors Inter are three points behind in 5th. The Italian top division opts to use head-to-head results rather than goal difference, meaning a win of any score-line would see Champions League football back in Milan as the reverse fixture ended 0-0.
Lazio’s league form suggests they are one of most the inform side’s in the league having not lost since 3rd March when they were beaten by 1-0 by Juventus, falling short to a 93rd minute Paulo Dybala winner. Since then, the capital team have shown resilience going on an unbeaten streak of 10 matches, which is currently the longest streak in Serie A (five wins and five draws).
Goals haven’t been hard to come by for Lazio this season but the injury to Spanish attacker Luis Alberto, who has made 31 direct goal contributions (12 goals and 19 assists) will big a big blow. Although a boost for Simone Inzaghi is the return of his sides top goal scorer, Ciro Immobile, who missed the last two fixtures because of a hamstring injury.
To add to the tension of tonight’s game, Champions League football could be accompanied by the golden boot trophy for either Immobile, 29 goals, or Inter striker Mauro Icardi, 28 goals. Argentine Icardi is also just one goal away from becoming the eighth player to score 100 Serie A goals for Inter.
Despite playing in front of his own fans Immobile is against the odds to score in 90 minutes, being priced at 11/10, whilst golden boot rival Icardi is priced at 10/11 to score in 90 minutes. An outside bet to get on the score sheet is Inter attacking midfielder Rafinha, who has been involved in at least one goal in four of his last five games in Serie A, two assists and two goals. The Brazilian can be found at 3/1 to score in 90 minutes.
Inter’s recent league form suggests they’ve had their troubles at the San Siro rather than away from home, winning three of their last five matches and two of those three wins have been on the road. There has also been a real upsurge in goals for Luciano Spalletti’s men as his side has scored two or more in four of their last five fixtures.
Lazio just have the upper hand when it comes to head-to-head at the Stadio Olimpico as they’ve won three of the last five matches, whist Inter have won two. However, Inter have had the upper hand in more recent times winning two of the last three, including a 3-1 away win at the end of last season.
Lazio attacker Luis Alberto is ruled out but Ciro Immobile is set to return from injury after missing the previous two league fixtures.
Jordan Lukaku and Marco Parolo could also return for the hosts.
Potential Lazio Starting XI: Strakosha, Basta, Radu, de Vrij, Wallaca, Lucas Leiva, Lulić, Felipe Anderson, Milinković-Savić, Murgia, Immobile.
Potential Inter Milan Starting XI: Handanovič, Rannocchia, D’Ambrosio, Cancelo, Škriniar, Perišić, Candreva, Vecino, Brozovic, Rafinha, Icardi.
