The DFB Pokal cup final takes place on Saturday evening and it sees RB Leipzig take on Bayern Munich. Bayern come into the game as heavy favourites to lift trophy and claim a domestic double. They claimed the league title on the last day of the season and they are now in search of their 19th German cup title.
RB Leipzig come into this game having suffered their first defeat in 19 competitive games. They come into the game as big underdogs at 5/1 to win the game in 90 minutes and being the underdog hasn’t suited them this season. They have won only 2 of 6 games they have played as an outsider this season. ‘Die Bullen’ do have a good defence that they can rely on, having conceded an average of 0.85 goals a game.
Whilst on paper this might look like a one-sided affair, I think we could be in for a very exciting game with two strong teams going up against each other in a one-off final.
Baryern are still unsure on the fitness of Manuel Neuer and James Rodriguez and Javi Martinez is a doubt with a shin injury.
Potential RB Leipzig Starting XI: Gulasci, Klostermann, Orban, Upamecano, Halstenberg, Sabitzer, Demme, Adams, Forsberg, Poulsen, Werner
Potential Bayern Munich Starting XI: Neuer, Kimmich, Sule, Alba, Hummels, Goretzka, Thiago. Gnabry, Muller, Coman, Lewandowski
Key Stats & Facts
- Bayern are unbeaten against Leipzig this season and are yet to concede a goal.
- Peter Gulasci registered 16 clean sheets this season.
- RB Leipzig 5/1
- Draw 10/3
- Bayern 1/2
This should be a great game to end the German season on, with two high quality footballing sides going head to head in a one off final. Bayern are rightly favourites after their impressive season but they will need to be on top form if they are to beat a strong Leipzig side.
It’s an obvious choice but I do fancy Bayern to come out on top in this match. The previous meetings between the two this season have seen a 1-0 Bayern win and a 0-0 draw. I think this match will follow a similar pattern but I can see Leipzig scoring against a Bayern side who have conceded 7 goals in their last 5 matches. Leipzig have also only failed to find the back of the net once in last twelve matches. I think a Bayern win and both teams to score at 39/20 (888Sport) is a good angle.
Normally I would be looking at Robert Lewandowski to find the back of the net in a game of football but for this game I’m looking at him to pick up a card. Lewandowski has 3 yellow cards in 4 games in the competition and I think he could get frustrated again in this clash as he’ll most likely be up against a tough block of Leipzig defenders. Lewandowski is 11/2 (William Hill) to be shown a card in the match.
In Bayern’s last four German Cup matches there have been five penalties awarded and there has also been four penalties awarded across Leipzig’s last six matches. William Hill are best priced 11/4 for a penalty to be awarded in the match and I fancy that this could happen again with the mix of attacking talent and cup final nerves in the defenses.
