Liverpool’s season continues to get better after their 2-1 victory at The Etihad over City saw them complete a 5-1 Champions League Quarter-Final aggregate win. They were drawn against Roma for the semi-finals on Friday and head into this game in brilliant form.
This is the crucial part of the season now and Jurgen Klopp will be very aware that some of his players are playing a lot of games at the moment and there could be a few changes made to this weekend’s side against Bournemouth.
The Cherries have had a good season and sit in 11th place, ten points clear of the relegation zone. They have lost just once in their last six league games and arrive at Anfield on the back of two 2-2 draws against Watford and Crystal Palace. Their away form, however, will be something Eddie Howe will want to work on, as they have just one victory in their last 12 games on the road.
Liverpool’s defeast away at United and Swansea are their only defeats in their last 24 games in the Premier League and they remain undefeated in the league at home this season. They have just one loss at Anfield all season in any competition, which was to West Brom in the FA Cup back in January.
There is little pressure on the away side this weekend and not many will be backing them to get anything from the game. Having said that, Klopp could make some changes and with Champions League on their minds, Bournemouth could take something from the game. Bournemouth/Draw in the ‘double-chance’ market at 37/10 looks good value in these circumstances and could be worth a shot.
Liverpool’s front three have had an astonishing season and even if one doesn’t start it is hard to look past them being able to score a few against a Bournemouth side who have kept just one clean sheet away form home in their last 11 league games. On paper it looks like being another comfortable victory for the Reds, who will be keen on securing their top 4 place before the games against Roma arrive.
Liverpool are struggling with injuries as Adam Lallana, Emre Can, Joe Gomez, Ragnar Klavan and Joel Matip are all still unavailable. Nathaniel Clyne could replace Alexander-Arnold at right back as Klopp will want to keep him fresh. Henderson will return to the starting line-up after missing the Champions League win against City through suspension.
Bournemouth will hope Jordan Ibe is available after he missed last weekend’s game through illness. Joshua King could return after being dropped against Palace, whilst Junior Stanislas and Adam Smith are still out long-term.
Potential Liverpool Starting XI: Karius; Clyne, Lovren, Van Dijk, Moreno; Chamberlain, Henderson, Milner; Salah, Firmino, Mane
Potential Bournemouth Starting XI: Begovic; Francis, Cook, Ake, Daniels; Fraser, Cook, Gosling, Pugh; King; Defoe
