Liverpool have one of the more agreeable quarter finals as they take on Porto as they aim to make the final two years running. They're overwhelming favourites to qualify for the semi-final and odds of 1/7 reflect that, it's the shortest price of each of the remaining 8.

Jurgen Klopp would love a comfortable lead to take to Portugal and it's hard to think they won't given their superb record on Merseyside. Liverpool have won 17, drew 3 and lost 1 in all competitions this season and that strong record makes the 3/10 quotes on them to win look justifiable.

They showed admirable grit on Friday night as they came back from a losing position to beat Southampton. Confidence is high and they're back scoring plenty of goals, something I'd also expect in this clash.

Porto progressed out of the weakest qualifying group alongside Schalke, Galatasary and Lokomotiv Moscow. They then drew Roma in the round of 16 and managed to get through in extra time in the second leg.

There's plenty for the Dragons to fight for in their domestic league as they're tied at the top with rivals Benfica. They may feel that native matters will pull rank with it looking unlikely that they'll get past the Reds.

Team News

Andy Robertson was booked late in the game against Bayern Munich and is therefore suspended for this clash meaning James Milner is likely to deputise at full back. Adam Lallana is a doubt with a muscle problem whereas Joe Gomez and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain may not be fit in time.

Vincent Aboubakar remains sidelined for Porto, whereas influential duo Hector Herrera and Pepe are suspended for the first leg. Alex Telles picked up a slight injury at the weekend but should be fit to play

Potential Liverpool Starting XI: Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Van Dijk, Matip, Milner, Fabinho, Wijnaldum, Henderson, Mane, Salah, Firmino.

Potential Porto Starting XI: Casillas, Militao, Felipe, Leite, Telles, Danilo, Otavio, Corona, Brahimi, Soares, Marega.

Betting Odds

  • Draw – 5/1
  • Porto – 10/1

The Verdict

I have to be with the hosts here given their impeccable record at Anfield, we can boost the 1/3 on Liverpool to a near even-money quote by chucking in over 2.5 goals.

Porto games have been rife for goals in the champions league this season and I couldn't rule out them scoring here, they have done so in every game in this competition this term. However, there will be a willingness for the home side to take a decent lead into the second leg.
