Man City v Brighton Betting Preview
Venue: Etihad Stadium (Manchester)
Channel: Sky Sports One
Newly crowned champions Manchester City play their final league game at home on Wednesday as they host Brighton at the Etihad Stadium.
With the Premier League trophy now firmly situated in Manchester and Brighton safe from relegation, there’s a slight consensus that neither side has an awful lot to play for in this penultimate game of the season. However, City’s pursuit of further records and Brighton’s hunger to secure another top four scalp would suggest that’s not the case.
The Seagulls fantastic 1-0 home victory over Manchester United last Friday secured their Premier League status for next season. Their endeavour and desire to work for both their manager and each other has been a joy to watch in their first Premier League campaign, qualities that will serve them well in what’s bound to be a difficult night at the Etihad. It wouldn’t be surprising to see them adopt a similar game plan to that of Huddersfield, getting men behind the ball and leaving as few spaces as possible for Manchester City to exploit.
That approach may have worked against City on coronation day, but an early goal will deem Brighton’s game plan useless, forcing them to come out and attack. It’s expected that City legend Yaya Toure will start his last ever game at the Etihad, with the Ivorian conforming last week he will be leaving the club at the end of the season. A special mention goes to Yaya, who certainly drove Manchester City into the realms of being a super club that can compete at the highest level. Key goals in City’s FA Cup run under Mancini to lift their first trophy in over 35 years are just a couple of highlights City fans will remember on Wednesday night, not to mention the 20 goals and 10 assists he brought to City’s 2013/14 title winning campaign under Pellegrini.
The carnival atmosphere on Sunday was dampened slightly by the 0-0 scoreline, so the City faithful will be hopeful their side can give club legend Toure the fitting tribute he deserves by steamrolling Brighton with a performance we’ve grown a custom to throughout the season.
Aguero remains sidelined. Kompany could return. Toure expected to start.
Sidwell remains injured. No new injury concerns for Brighton who could name an unchanged side from the win against United.
