Current holders, Manchester City look towards retaining their first trophy of the season as they face lower league opposition, Burton Albion, in the Carabao cup semi-final.
Pep Guardiola guided his side to the double last season, accompanying this trophy with the Premier League title, and has proved again this season he has the squad to compete across all competitions.
City brushed aside Rotherham, 7-0, in the FA cup recently as Monday to continue their recent run of good form.
League leaders Liverpool suffered their first defeat in the top flight this season against City as the latter moved back to just four points behind the leaders, while Burton restored their promotion chase at the weekend.
Confidently winning 4-0, albeit against lowly opposition in their division, Rochdale, Burton may well not fear their Premier League opponents as much as you’d think.
Burton have knocked out one Premier League side already in this competition as well as three Championship sides. Burnley, of the Premier League, are joined by Nottingham Forest, Aston Villa, and most recently Middlesbrough, all of the Championship, as the sides knocked out by the Brewers.
Benjamin Mendy and Claudio Bravo are both out for Man City.
Marvin Sordell is out for Burton.
Potential Man City Starting XI: Muric, Zinchenko, Kompany, Otamendi, Walker, Fernandinho, D. Silva, B. Silva, Mahrez, Aguero, Sane
Potential Burton Starting XI: Collins, Hutchinson, Buxton, Turner, Brayford, Fox, Quinn, Wallace, Templeton, Akins, Harness
Head To Head
- These two sides have never met competitively.
Key Stats & Facts
- Should City make the final, this will be their second in as many seasons under Guardiola, their third in four years.
- Burton (9th, L1) are a whole 52 places behind Manchester City (2nd, PL) in the domestic league standings.
- City 1/16
- Draw 18/1
- Burton 40/1
Guardiola has proven last season and this that his squad can cope with all the competitions they are involved in, so I expect a clear victory by the home side, with plenty of goals.
Aguero is Man City’s top scorer with 14 goals, averaging just less than a goal a game. He has scored in both of his last two games he has featured in.
