Man City v Leicester Betting Preview
Venue: Etihad Stadium (Manchester)
Channel: Sky Sports One
The evening kick off in the Premier League this Saturday sees Manchester City host Leicester City at the Etihad Stadium.
Guardiola’s side enter the game off the back of a 1-1 draw against Burnley last weekend. City will be eager for normal service to resume after managing just 2 points from a possible 9 in their last 3 away games in the league. They remain formidable at home though, dropping just two points all season, that game back in August against Everton.
The 13 point gap that separates themselves and neighbours Manchester United is one that allows dropping points on tricky away outings more acceptable. Burnley proved a difficult outfit once again for one of the league’s ‘top 6’, having already secured points against Liverpool, Spurs, Chelsea and Man United.
The absence of David Silva was also a contributing factor at Turf Moor. City dropping points without the Spaniard has become a reoccurring theme over the last few seasons, he is imperative to the level of penetration they possess whilst on the front foot. Ilkay Gundogan looks set to step in again this weekend, he’ll need to find that final pass a little sooner for me, with too many spurned opportunities in the final third against Burnley.
Leicester City, currently sitting 8th in the table, will be keen to make an impression against the side who made a late attempt to hijack playmaker Riyad Mahrez on the final days of the transfer window. City’s late (failed) attempt to sign Mahrez, alongside two victories against the Foxes already this season will have left Leicester fans in search of revenge going into Saturday’s encounter – though their chances are slim.
The Championship winning side of 2015/16 did win this fixture though, a 3-1 victory that included goals from Huth, Vardy and that man Mahrez just a couple of seasons ago. Leicester’s form of late has been decent too and they’ve already proved they can take points off the top six this season.
Despite the consideration of a Manchester City backlash following last weekend’s result, Leicester certainly present themselves as trickier opposition than many for the league leaders with their counter attacking prowess, setting the stall for an entertaining encounter at the Etihad.
Benjamin Mendy remains absent for City, as does Fabian Delph. Jesus faces another 10 weeks out, Sané is sidelined for 4-6 weeks. Stones and Foden set to return. Silva absent.
Wes Morgan is the only absentee for Leicester, Mahrez could return.
Man City Potential Starting XI: Ederson, Walker, Laporte, Otamendi, Zinchenko, Fernandinho, De Bruyne, Gundogan, B Silva, Aguero, Sterling
Leicester City Potential Starting XI: Schmeichel, Simpson, Dragovic, Maguire, Fuchs, Ndidi, Silva, Gray, Albrighton, Vardy, Iheanacho
