Saturday sees one of the most famous games on earth take place as the FA Cup final between Manchester City and Watford goes off at Wembley.
Naturally, league champions Man City are favourites and they’re as short as 1/4 to win in 90 minutes. Watford will be pleased to be made underdogs though, they’ve revelled in it all week.
Watford were magnificent in their comeback against Wolves in the semi-final and the impact from the bench has been monumental for the Hornets all term. Gerard Deulofeu will be eager to start after his heroics from the touchline in the semis., he is likely to partner Troy Deeney at the top of the pitch.
Man City are themselves a frightening force, they’re going for the treble here in what would cement a wonderful campaign. However, without key defensive midfielder Fernandinho, the citizens could find it tougher than they first expect, especially if Watford’s narrow midfield can play around them.
They have plenty of attacking options though and you’d be a brave man to back against Pep Guardiola’s men. However, I get the feeling this could be slightly tighter than the betting suggests.
Manchester City remain without Benajamin Mendy and Claudio Bravo.
Domingos Quina is the only injury doubt for Watford. Jose Holebas is available to play after his ban was overturned.
Potential Man City Starting XI: Ederson, Walker, Kompany, Laporte, Zinchenko, Gundogan, David Silva, De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva, Sterling, Aguero.
Potential Watford Starting XI: Gomes, Femenia, Cathcart, Mariappa, Holebas, Capoue, Doucoure, Hughes, Pereyra, Deulofeu, Deeney.
Key Stats & Facts
- Manchester City have won their last 10 games against Watford, scoring at least twice in each of those.
- The last 5 head to head meetings have all broke the over 2.5 goals barrier.
- The last three meetings between the pair all ended 3-1 to Manchester City.
- Man City – 2/9
- Draw – 13/2
- Watford – 16/1
City on paper should have too much for this Watford side. Guardiola is a serial trophy winner and they’ll have had a good amount of focus on this in recent times. There’s a few bets that make appeal to me at the prices.
Firstly I’m going to dip into SkyBet’s request a bet market and back Over 1.5 goals, 5+ Man City corners, 3+ Watford corners, each team 10+ booking points at 11/4 (SkyBet). Games between these two tend to have goals and considering the magnitude of the game they’re likely to be well contested.
Thinking along similar lines there’s a player that looks too big for a booking and that’s Ilkay Gundogan. At 8/1 he’s simply overpriced for a player in his position, Watford naturally try get Pereyra on the ball running at the defensive midfield line and that could cause an overworked Gundogan problems.
Finally it looks worth having a couple of quid on the 3-1 correct score which has been enhanced to 11/1 with SkyBet. The last three games between the pair have ended by this score and it looks a fair gulf in quality.
