Man City v West Brom Betting Preview
Venue: Etihad Stadium
It’s hard to pinpoint value in these type of games, Man City will have a lot of possession and clearly have much more quality but the price reflects that at 1/6 so we have to find interesting angles in.
West Brom have picked up lately and we’re efficient going forward at Liverpool in that FA Cup victory at the weekend with Jay Rodriguez impressing. They’ll fancy their chances of notching here considering Man City have conceded in 5 of their last 6. The Baggies have a great set piece threat with their centre halves and I always like to have a look at Craig Dawson at a big price. He’s a mammoth 20/1 to score here, it does rely on WBA getting set pieces in dangerous areas and corners but Man City can be exposed down the wing when their full backs are advanced up the pitch, it’s something Bristol City exploited at the Etihad a few weeks ago. If theirs one area Man City struggle it is in the air.
Kevin De Bruyne put on another masterclass in South Wales at the weekend and this West Brom team will have their hands full with him, Raheem Stirling and Sergio Aguero. West Brom have a wealth of defensive midfielders, namely from the Tony Pulis era, and they all have a penchant for picking up a yellow card. Gareth Barry, Jake Livermore, Claudio Yacob and Gregorz Krychowiak are the players current gaffer Alan Pardew has to pick from and it’s expected that Krychowiak will start, he’s a niggly player and in the games I’ve seen him play for Sevilla and he was a regular in the referees book, picking up 20 yellow cards in his two seasons there.
Daniel Sturridge could make his debut for West Brom after joining from Liverpool, it will be difficult to dislodge Rodriguez at the moment however. New signing Abi Gabr is unlikely to feature, as is Johnny Evans and Hal Robson-Kanu.
Leroy Sane is the only recent injury update for Man City, he’s expected to be out for at least six weeks following a horrendous challenge from Joe Bennett at the weekend. Aymeric Laporte is available for selection after joining from Bilbao earlier in the week.
