Marseille and Atletico Madrid clash in the final of the second tier European championship, with Marseille looking to clinch a Champions League spot with a win.
Atletico have all but sealed second place in La Liga this season, needing just a point from their final game at home to Eibar, and a win in the Europa League would solidify a solid year for Diego Simeone’s men. After an initially disappointing European run, which saw Atletico knocked out of the group stages of the Champions League, they find themselves in a great place to claim their first piece of silverware since winning La Liga in the 2013-14 season.
Marseille will be playing in one of the league rivals stadiums on Wednesday night, which will add a different angle to the final. It is also offers them another route into the Champions League, as they currently sit 4th in Ligue 1 with just one game to play. Premier League fans will see former West Ham player Dimi Payet in the Marseille colours, as he looks to guide the French outfit to their first piece of silverware in 5 years.
It’s hard to look past an Atletico win here, their staunch defence is one of the best in Europe, and in Antonie Griezmann, they have one of the best attacking players in world football.
- Rolando is doubtful for Marseille, as is Kostas Mitroglou
- Atletico are waiting to see if Jose Giminez is available, whilst they welcome back Sime Vrsaljko from suspension
