- Time: 19:45
- Venue:Riverside Stadium
Neither Middlesbrough or Sheffield United are yet to clinch 3 points prior to their clash on Tuesday night.
Following his side’s 2-2 draw with Millwall, Middlesbrough manager, Tony Pulis, clearly stated he believes his squad needs another injection of talent if they are to be promoted. One of his new players in particular is yet to hit top form.
Aden Flint, a major factor in Bristol City’s success last season, made a costly error leading to the second goal, an unlikely mistake for him which looked unlikely to be corrected until late on.
Boro left it late to salvage the draw against Millwall, with goals in the 87th and 96th minute, but ended the day much happier than the Blades.
Sheffield United couldn’t stop a comeback from Swansea, eventually losing 2-1 to the recently relegated side, despite reinforcements in both defence and attack since last season.
Dean Henderson made his debut in goal while reliable championship striker, David McGoldrick, has been brought in to Blades to take half of the burden off their top scorer of last season.
Despite both Sheffield United’s Leon Clarke and Boro’s Britt Assombalonga featuring in this match, the 3rd and 7th top scorer respectively last season, there are signs leading us to be less optimistic about goals in this fixture.
Middlesbrough: Adama Traore is unavailable with a dislocated shoulder. Rudy Gestede, Daniel Ayala and Paddy McNair all missed the last match, through injury also.
Potential Middlesbrough starting XI: Randolph, Shotton, Flint, Fry, Friend, Clayton, Leadbitter, Howson, Downing, Assombalonga, Braithwaite
Potential Sheffield United starting XI: Henderson, Basham, Egan, O’Connell, Baldock, Lundstram, Evans, Fleck, Stevens, McGoldrick, Clarke
Head To Head
- These two sides have met on 76 occasions.
- Sheffield Utd currently hold bragging rights, with 33 wins to Boro’s 27.
Key Stats & Facts
- John Fleck created 7 assists last season, beaten only by Duffy (9), and played the assist for the assist for the Blades’ only goal on the opening day.
- This fixtures features the 17/18 Championship’s 3rd and 7th top scorer, The Blades’ Leon Clarke (19) and The Boro’s Britt Assombalonga (15) respectively.
- Middlesbrough 7/6
- Draw 5/2
- Sheff U 14/5
Tony Pulis’ sides, as well as the usually reliable Aden Flint, should be expected to be solid. John Fleck was at his usual creative self in the Blades’ opener but should be limited to space on Tuesday night while Adama Traore has been, and will continue to be, a huge miss for Boro.
