Millwall will be looking to reach the FA Cup fifth round for the second time in three seasons. The Lions haven’t had the greatest season in the Championship so far, sitting 19th in the league, and the FA Cup will come as a welcomed relief.

Neil Harris’ side were forced to settle for a point last time out against Middlesbrough as a late Jordan Hugill penalty saw Boro draw 1-1 with Millwall.

Millwall beat Hull City 2-1 in the last round with Shane Ferguson netting two late goals to turn the game on its head.

Everton have had an indifferent campaign so far with the Toffees occupying 11th spot in the Premier League. Marco Silva’s side lost 2-1 to Southampton last Saturday which condemned Everton to their ninth defeat in the league this season.

Lincoln City gave Everton a scare in the last round, as goals from Ademola Lookman and Bernard saw Everton win 2-1 and scrape past their League Two opponents.

Everton have already gone one better than last season where they exited the FA Cup at the third round stage following a 2-1 loss to rivals Liverpool.

Team News

Tom Bradshaw will be out for the hosts as the striker is out for the season following a knee ligament injury sustained in November. Tom Elliot will likely miss out after suffering an injury against Blackburn which saw him miss out last week against Middlesbrough.

Steve Morison may find himself back in the starting eleven to help Jed Wallace break into goalscoring areas.

Everton have no fresh injury concerns but after a fairly poor Premier League campaign so far, Silva will likely name a very strong side considering Millwall’s recent giant-killing reputation.

Potential Everton Starting XI: Archer, Wallace, Cooper, Hutchinson, Romeo, Marshall, Leonard, Williams, Wallace, Morison, Gregory

Potential Millwall Starting XI: Pickford, Coleman, Keane, Zouma, Baines, Gueye, Davies, Lookman, Sigurdsson, Walcott, Tosun

  • There have been four FA Cup encounters between the two sides with Millwall winning two of them and one ending in a draw with Everton winning the replay.

Key Stats & Facts

  • The last fourth-round tie Everton lost was in the 2009-10 season where they lost 2-1 to Birmingham City.

  • Everton’s last win away at Millwall came in March 1990 where they ran out 2-1 winners.

  • Draw 3/1
  • Everton 3/4

The Verdict

With the hostile Millwall crowd making the Den a tough place for away sides to go, it’s likely that the unique atmosphere will see the Lions raise their performance. Millwall have become notorious for their recent giant killings.

Recent cup wins against Leicester City, Bournemouth and Watford have showcased how Neil Harris’ side are more than capable of matching higher league opponents.

Lee Gregory will be keen to add to his tally of nine goals so far this season and he will be looking to take advantage of an Everton defence which has been exploited a lot this season.

However, Millwall’s back-line has left a lot to be desired this season, with the Lions conceding 44 goals in the Championship this season.

One man who will look to take advantage of this is Cenk Tosun who could feature in the place of Richarlison. Tosun hasn’t made a big impact since signing for the Toffees, but Millwall may be the perfect opportunity to show Marco Silva what he is capable of.
