Millwall v Nottingham Forest Betting Preview
Venue: The Den
What a story it has been for Millwall, after edging past Bradford City in the league 1 play off final last year they have settled to life in the Championship with surprising ease. Neil Harris’ men have been the form team in 2018, they’re unbeaten in the league since their defeat to Norwich on New Years Day with a W8, D4, L0 record, winning 5 on the bounce away from home which equals a club record. It was the Lions away form that was letting them down in the first half of the season but they’ve maintained a strong home record, proving very difficult to beat. This side are defensively strong and physical all over the park, Harris also added some flair bringing in winger Ben Marshall who’s proved a hit with the fans, he along with Jed Wallace and George Saville provide the craft and creativity going forward which complements the likes of Steve Morison and Lee Gregory up top.
Nottingham Forest look to have made a good appointment bringing in Aitor Karanka to replace Mark Warburton. Karanka may not get his sides playing sexy football but it’s effective and he’s started by solidifying that previously porous backline, Forest are now conceding far less and its coincided with the arrival of the Spaniard. You can tell that Karanka has shadowed José Mourinho in the past working as number 2 for him at Real Madrid, his ethos mirrors that of Mourinho, safety first football but seriously well-drilled and organised. Whether he proves to be so popular in the long term is another question but for now he’s just what the Tricky Trees need in their quest to steer clear of the drop zone. There is a real lack of wingers for Forest but plenty of central midfielders and that will suit Karanka, it’s likely that they will pack the midfield and try stop Millwall playing through them.
Millwall have been deservedly priced up as favourites in this one but odds on quotes don’t sit too easy with me, particularly after an international break which could have possibly halted their momentum. Having said that Forest will happily take a point here so I wouldn’t want to be backing them against a stubborn Lions outfit. It’s a tale of two strong defences at the minute and backing unders on the goals looks the most attractive angle to attack.
Forest have doubts over the fitness of Daryl Murphy, Matty Cash, David Vaughan and Keiran Dowell leaving them light in midfield. Jack Hobbs is likely to not be back for this one either but Lee Tomlin is available.
Millwall have no new injury concerns.
Potential Millwall Starting XI: Archer, McLaughlin, Cooper, Hutchinson, Meredith, Marshall, Saville, Williams, Wallace, Gregory, Morison.
Potential Nottingham Forest Starting XI: Pantillimon, Darikwa, Figueiredo, Worrall, Fox, Colback, Watson, Osborn, Lolley, Tomlin, Brereton.

- It’s impossible to separate these teams looking through the history books. In the last 31 games Millwall have won 11, Forest have won 10 and the remaining 10 were all square.
