Nottingham Forest are the fourth favourites for the championship title this season after Aitor Karanka and his board spent huge money and have come closest to spontaneously ‘doing a Wolves’. The Reds brought in exciting and promising Portuguese trio Gil Dias, Diogo Gonçalves and Joao Carvalho with the latter breaking their transfer record at around £13 million. These three impressed in preseason, helping their side defeat La Liga side Malaga and premier league outfit Bournemouth.
Despite falling behind early on in their season opener at Bristol City, they claimed a point after Daryl Murphy's glancing header rippled the back of the net, a goal that may just keep his spot leading the line ahead of £6 million signing Lewis Grabban, another astute piece of business.
West Brom on the other hand were surprisingly defeated by Bolton Wanderers, one of the favourites for relegation, on home soil which is a result that knocks them back a few steps in their pursuit for an immediate return to the top flight. That achievement has been put in the hands of Darren Moore who impressed in the Premier League last season after Alan Pardew’s departure. The Baggies will be looking for a quick reaction to this shock defeat when they travel from the West to the East midlands, perhaps with Dwight Gayle in the armoury. The Newcastle forward is reportedly close to joining with Rondon heading to Tyneside.
The bookies have this one firmly in Forest’s favour, with 6/5 or similar odds being offered at the majority of bookmakers. It is hard to see forest not scoring in their first home game of the season especially with their attacking threat that perhaps didn’t fulfill its potential at Ashton Gate on saturday.
Neither Forest or West Brom have any injury worries.
Potential Forest Starting XI: Pantilimon, Darikwa, Dawson, Fox, Osborn, Colback, Watson, Goncalves, Carvalho, Dias, Murphy
Potential West Brom Starting XI: Johnstone, Nyom, Bartley, Hegazi, Gibbs, Phillips, Livermore, Brunt, Barnes, Robson-Kanu, Rodriguez
Head To Head
- 9 of the last 10 haven’t seen both teams score.
- West brom have won 5 of the last 8.
- 3 of the last 4 at The City Ground have seen a 1-0 or 0-1 scoreline.
Key Stats & Facts
- Forest and West Brom both only scored 1 goal on the opening day and both conceded but West Brom lost in comparison to Forest’s well earnt point.
- Forest 6/5
- Draw 12/5
- West Brom 11/5
I expect Forest to perform here in front of a packed out City Ground but odds of 6/5 don’t present the greatest value in my opinion. I can see goals in this one.
