Ostersunds v Arsenal Betting Preview
Venue: Jamtkraft Arena
Channel: BT Sport 3
Swedish side Ostersunds, who are managed by English man Graham Potter, have outplayed their odds in this competition so far. Having beat Galatasaray in the qualifying stage of the competiton they then went on to finish ahead of Ukrainian side Zorya and German side Hertha Berlin. Their only defeat came away at Athletic Bilbao and will provide stiff competition for Arsenal especially at home where freezing conditions are anticipated. One downfall for Ostersunds could be that they have only played one competitive fixture since the 7th December, however they showed no ill signs winning the Swedish cup fixture 3-0 on the Friday just gone.
Arsenal are second favourites to win the competition outright, which is a bit surprising with some of the quality behind them in the market (Napoli, Lazio, Dortmund are all bigger prices). They are as short as 1/16 to qualify after the two legs and should have enough quality over the two games to do so. Wenger’s side reached the round of 32 after a fairly comfortable group passage winning Group H, picking up 13 points and scoring 14 goals along the way. They do go into the fixture though on the back of three straight away defeats and have only managed 5 victories away from home all season. With Arsenal now sitting in sixth place in the league and eight points behind fourth place Chelsea, they are 14/1 to finish in the top 4 and therefore with Arsenal more than half that price to win this, it is in Wenger’s best interest to attack this tournament with it being the best route to champion’s league qualification for next season.
Aiesh, Suljevic and Bertilsson are all out for the hosts while new signing Islamovic should get a chance to impress from the start.
Lacazette was recently ruled out for up to 6 week after surgery while new signing Aubameyang is ineligible to play because previous club Dortmund are in the competition. That means Welbeck is likely to get a chance to lead the line.
Ostersunds Potential Starting XI: Keita; Mukiibi, Papagiannopoulos, Pettersson; Edwards, Nouri, Bergqvist, Sema; Islamovic, Gero, Ghoddos.
Arsenal Potential Starting XI: Ospina; Koscielny, Mustafi, Monreal; Bellerin, Wilshere, Xhaka, Maitland-Niles; Mkhitaryan, Welbeck, Iwobi.
