Saturday afternoon’s game between Peru and Denmark will see both nations kick off their World Cup adventure. Both teams have not lost a game in over 18 months, but that all could change after the match.
Fortunately for both sides, France is the absolute favourite to top the group, and a win would essentially mean that they challenge Didier Deschamps men for first place. Peru narrowly made it to the tournament after a very poor start to their qualifying campaign and have now failed to lose a match since being defeated by Brazil early last year. The return of key player Paolo Guerrero will prove crucial for Peru’s performance, after the 34 year-old was initially banned for a period of time that would have seen him miss out on the tournament, after scoring twice against Saudi Arabia in a friendly.
Denmark are a slightly better side on paper, with big name players like Christian Eriksen or Kasper Schmeichel in their ranks. The Tottenham Hotspur midfielder has been phenomenal once again for the North London side, and his performances will likely continue to improve over the course of the tournament. However, despite Denmark’s manager believing Eriksen is a player of utmost importance, he also knows that a team is more than just one individual, claiming that Denmark has “a team working for him.”
Both nations qualified for the finals via the play-offs, so in theory the quality of both set of players should be level. The only difference between any other match is that it’s the World Cup- anything could happen.
Neither team has any missing players.
Potential Peru Starting XI: Gallese, Advíncula, Rodríguez, Ramos, Trauco, Yotún, Tapia, Carillo, Cueva, Flores, Guerrero.
Potential Denmark Starting XI: Schmeichel, Dalsgaard, Kjær, Chrsitensen, Larsen, Delaney, Kvist, Poulsen, Eriksen, Sisto, Jørgensen.
Head To Head
- This is the first encounter between the two sides.
Key Stats & Facts
- There have been under 2.5 goals in Peru’s last 4 games.
- Denmark are undefeated in their last 9 games.
- Peru 9/4
- Draw 23/10
- Denmark 7/5
Despite the lack of goals conceded by Peru, Denmark’s attacking creativity will probably be too much for the South American team, but the lack of experience for sides could also prove to be their downfall.
