Porto v Liverpool Betting Preview
Venue: Estadio Do Dragao
Channel: BT Sport 1
The Portuguese league leaders, Porto, host an in-form Liverpool side in this Round of 16 Champions League first-leg.
Jurgen Klopp’s men travel to Portugal on the back of a comfortable 2-0 away win against Southampton in the Premier League and are made just slight favourites for the win at 11/8, whilst the home side are out at 111/50 and the draw at 13/5.
Porto’s domestic form is incredibly impressive as they have dropped points on just four occasions so far this season and are two points clear at the top, with a game in hand on Benfica in second. They are un-beaten in the league and this game will be an extremely tough one for the Reds.
Liverpool’s away form is well documented as being incredibly strong, bar the slip up to Swansea, and they are full of goals going forward, especially with the likes of Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino. Liverpool scored the second most goals in the group stage with 23, behind only PSG and scored 7 goals in one game on two occasions.
Porto only won three games in the group stage, two of those coming at home. Both teams to score resulted in 5 of their 6 matches. Over 2.5 goals resulted in five of Liverpool’s 6 group games, so goals are definitely expected here. BTTS is at 4/6, which is not a bad price given the goal scoring form of these two sides and over 2.5 goals can be found best priced at 79/100.
In what is likely to be a close tie overall, it would be no surprise to see a slightly more cagey game than what the form suggests. Klopp will be very keen to see Liverpool keep it tight at the back and take an advantage of sorts back to Anfield for the second leg. So the draw at 13/5 looks tempting and given the fact these two love to score goals, the draw and BTTS at 7/2 with BetVictor looks very good value.
Porto are sweating over the fitness of a few key players, including Vincent Aboubakar, Danilo and Andre Andre.
Felipe is suspended whilst Ivan Marcano will be assessed before kick-off.
Emre Can is suspended for Liverpool but other than that, Klopp has a fully fit squad to chose from.
Nathaniel Clyne is in the squad, but is not expected to play any part in the game, as he returns from a long-term injury. Gomez is also coming back from injury so might be left out.
Potential Porto Starting XI: Casillas; Pereira, Reyes, Marcano, Telles; Corona, Herrera, Oliveira, Brahimi; Soares, Marega
Potential Liverpool Starting XI: Karius; Trent Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Van Dijk, Robertson; Chamberlain, Henderson, Wijnaldum; Salah, Firmino, Mane
