The “Old” Firm is back once again on Sunday for the third time this season- and it won’t be the last either. After drawing Celtic in the Scottish Cup semi-final, both Rangers players and fans are highly motivated to finally defeat Celtic for the first time since they were liquidated and reformed as a new club.
Despite their rival’s motivation, Celtic still lead by some margin- 6 points- and with a game in hand. While the gap is hugely significant, Brendan Rodger’s will want to maintain his perfect record at Ibrox, where his team has failed to drop a single point since taking over in 2016.
After a weak second leg performance against Zenit St Petersburg in the Europa League and a few dropped points along the way in the league, it would seem that Celtic are there for the taking. However, despite these results and several humiliating defeats to PSG & Anderlecht in the Champions League, let’s not forget that the Rangers went out in the Europa League qualifications to Luxembourg’s 4th best team.
All in all, a derby is a derby and one thing’s for sure: tensions will be at their highest and the football should be at its best.
Graham Dorrans is out for the Rangers, with Lee Wallace a doubt. Celtic are still without Craig Gordon and Boyata, while Lustig is suspended.
Potential the Rangers Starting XI: Foderingham, Tavernier, Martin, Bates, John, Goss, Docherty, Candeias, Windass, Murphy, Morelos.
Potential Celtic Starting XI: de Vries, Compper, Simunovic, Ajer, Tierney, Brown, Ntcham, Sinclair, McGregor, Forrest, Dembélé.
