Sevilla host Real Madrid on Sunday night looking to extend their stay at the top of La Liga. The hosts are unbeaten in their last 5 matches across all competitions but this game will be a real test of their character as they face up against a Real Madrid side who are desparate to bounce back to form after their 3-0 defeat at the hands of PSG in the Champions League.
Madrid haven’t had a great start to their season and there is a lot of rumours of unrest in the camp. Their performances haven’t been great in the league, they have W2, D2, L1 in the league and they haven’t played many of the big sides. A feature of Madrid’s performacnces has been conceding goals. They have conceded at least one goal in every game so far this season.
Real Madrid will be without Marco Asensio and Luka Modric who are both out with injury.
Sevilla have doubts over striker, Nolito, who has missed the past 2 games with injury.
Potential Sevilla Starting XI: Vaclik, Reguilón, Carriço, Carlos, Navas, Jordán, Fernando, Banega, Haddadi, Jong, Ocampos
Potential Real Madrid Starting XI: Courtois, Mendy, Ramos, Varane, Carvajal, Kroos, Casemiro, Rodríguez, Hazard, Benzema, Bale
Key Stats & Facts
- Real Madrid have conceded over 1.5 goals in 7 consecutive H2Hs here losing 5 of those.
- Sevilla 6/4
- Draw 14/5
- Real Madrid 13/8
This game is a tough one to work out as we all know that if Real Madrid get it right, they can win any game with the talent that they have in their squad. At the moment it doesn’t look like that will happen with the unrest in the camp and the inability to keep clean sheets. Madrid have struggled in the past against Sevilla and I think they could struggle again on Sunday night.
Sevilla have held the upper hand at home for a while against Madrid and they have started the season well and more impressively they have only conceded 1 goal across their 4 league matches so far. I think their defensive prowess will help them massively in this game and I can see them winning but I can’t rule out Madrid finding the back of the net. They have managed to score in all but one competitive game this season and I fancy Sevilla to win and both teams to score at 3/1(Bet365). Both teams have scored in all Real Madrid’s league matches this season and even though it is dangerous to back against such a quality laden side, I really do see Madrid struggling in this game. I’m happy to back the hosts given the recent history in this fixture.
Another angle I like is in the cards market and it revolves around Sevilla Midfielder, Fernando. The former Man City player has 2 yellow cards in 4 matches this season and he is priced at 9/5 (Skybet) to be shown a card in this match. Last season Fernando picked up 9 yellow cards in 22 matches which is a card every 2.4 games. In this game I think he’ll be challenged in this game with Madrid’s attacking talent. The previous fixture between these two sides at this stadium saw all 3 central midfielders for Sevilla pick up a yellow card.
