South Korea finished 2nd behind Iran in qualification but didn’t win an away game in the final phase of qualification. The Taegeuk Warriors won the East Asian Cup in December.

Tae-Yong Shin’s side drew 0-0 with Bolivia in Austria last time out, although star-man Heung-Min Son only appeared from the bench. Prior to that they lost 3-1 to Bosnia. This is their final game before next Monday’s meeting with Sweden. They operate in a 4-4-1-1 and aim to maximise the influence of Son.

Opponent’s Senegal will also appear in Russia after coming through CAF qualification unbeaten. They are dogged all round, and in the final third Sadio Mane will provide x-factor. Skipper-turned-manager Aliou Cisse has been loyal to Moussa Sow, but there will be calls for the exciting Keita Balde to be thrown in.

Since qualification Senegal have scored just two goals in four friendlies, which reflects the creativity void in midfield. It’s fair to say they will be at their best when given the opportunity to counter-attack.

Sadio Mane played 90 minutes in Friday’s 2-1 loss to Croatia, while Kalidou Koulibaly played 82. The Lions of Teranga’s key duo will surely not be expected to feature for the whole course of this friendly.

Team News

South Korea have been unfortunate with injuries since their squad announcement. Kim Jin-Su, Kwon Chang-hoon and Lee Keun-Ho have all been ruled out.

Senegal have a clean bill of health.

Rotation from both sides is likely.

Potential South Korea Starting XI: Kim; Yong, Chul, Jank, Oh; Ki, Jung, Koo, Lee; Son; Hwang

Potential Senegal Starting XI: Diallo; Gassama, Mbodji, Sane, Ciss; Kouyate, Ndiaye, N’Diaye; Balde, Sow, Diouf

The Verdict

This is the final friendly for both sides before next week’s tournament. It’ll be used to get minutes in, and to tweak and test different combinations and styles. It’s fair to say that no player will approach this with full vigor. This international break, 29 of the last 53 (55%) friendlies involving nations attending the World Cup have seen Under 2.5 goals. Goals could be scarce and so Under 1.5 goals gets the nod at 13/8.

Recommended Bets

  • Under 1.5 Goals @ 13/8
