Inter have the opportunity to keep tabs on their Scudetto push as they travel to the Stadio Paolo Mazza to take on SPAL on Sunday night.
The Nerazzurri have hit a rich vein of form as of late. They have six consecutive victories in all competitions as Luciano Spalletti seems to be getting the absolute best out of his squad. The summer acquisition of former-Roma engine Radja Nainggolan has proved a great piece of business, as the Belgian has been deployed behind the striker in a 4-2-3-1 – just like his days under Spalletti at Roma. Although not as prolific in front of goals as their rivals, they have still notched up four wins so far during the new campaign and boast the equal second-best defensive record in the league, conceding just five times in the opening seven fixtures.
Meanwhile, SPAL had a very strong start to the Serie A season but Leonardo Semplici’s men seem to have dropped off. Their last victory was a 2-0 win over Atalanta on September 17, and in their last three games they have scored just once and conceded seven. They have proved in the past that they have the ability to frustrate opposition, so Semplici will be hoping his side will be at their defensive best come Sunday night.
SPAL will be without Federico Viviani for the match along with Jasmin Kurtic, as the pair battle their respective injuries.
Inter, however, come into the clash with a full squad to choose from, as his side have no current injuries or suspensions.
Potential SPAL Starting XI: Gomis, Cionek, Vicari, Felipe, Lazzari, Everton, Schiattarella, Missiroli, Costa, Paloschi, Petagna
Potential Inter Starting XI: Handanovic, Vrsaljko, Miranda, Skriniar, Asamoah, Vecino, Brozovic, Candreva, Nainggolan, Keita, Icardi
Stats & Facts
- SPAL haven’t defeated Inter at home since 1962, with four draws and 11 defeats since then.
- Both meetings between the sides last season saw less than 2.5 goals scored, a 2-0 Inter win at the San Siro and a 1-1 draw at the Paolo Mazza.
- SPAL – 21/4
- Draw – 29/10
- Inter Milan – 4/6
The earlier mentioned stat of this fixture seeing no more than 2.5 goals is set to end here. Inter are a much stronger outfit this season and their attack will prove too strong for SPAL’s defence. The absence of Viviani and Kurtic in the middle for the Spallini is a big blow, and I fully expect Inter to dominate this match from the start.
Betway are offering great value in the Anytime Goalscorer market. Mauro Icardi has only found the net once so far this season, and is eager to get back to his goalscoring form of last season. They are offering odds of 5/4 for Icardi to score anytime – a very high possibility as he comes up against a team with a shaky defence of late.
