Swansea v Man Utd League Cup Betting Preview
Venue: Liberty Stadium
The two sides head into this Carabao Cup tie on the back of 2-1 losses, to Leicester and Huddersfield respectively. Swansea’s inconsistent form this season means their loss was not too much of a surprise, yet United’s damaging defeat to the Terriers on Saturday afternoon was irrefutably the shock result of the Premier League season thus far.
Cup ties are hard to predict at the best of times, but with Jose Mourinho no punter or expert can perfectly predict his gameplay or starting eleven. Personally, I’d expect United to win with ease, similar to their rout earlier on in the season, when they recorded a 0-4 win at the Liberty Stadium. The Welsh side’s main starting eleven is far below the quality and expertise of even the fringe players of the Red Devils, so a United victory here seems likely, despite poor value in the outright odds of the match with United being as low as 4/9. The fact that Swansea are expected to lose here may play into their hands – giving them the chance to play with freedom and a less weight on their shoulders. New signings Renato Sanches Wilfried Bony are yet to fulfil their true potential, especially the latter who was brought in on deadline day to fill the boots of club goalscorer Fernando Llorente. An entertaining game and an ‘edge of your seat thriller’ is not in mind but a slender United victory seems the likeliest, with United to win to nil priced at 13/10 with under 2.5 goals seeming likely at 19/20.
Rashford is fully fit. Fellaini remains out with Rojo for the visitors.
Potential Swansea Starting XI: Nordfeldt, Rangel, Fernandez, Mawson, Olsson, Sanches, Mesa, Fer, Ayew, Abraham, Narsingh
Potential Man Utd Starting XI: Romero, Darmian, Lindelof, Smalling, Blind, Matic, Herrera, Mata, Lingard, Rashford, Martial
