Tottenham v Man Utd Betting Preview
Spurs have hit a slight sticky patch recently, drawing games against West Ham, Southampton and league 2 Newport County. Eric Dier and Moussa Dembele have been especially poor, both look slow and uncreative, they were both highlighted as weaknesses in a Newport dossier on their FA Cup opponents. Without Christian Eriksen Spurs look bereft of craft and expression, they need the Danish International back badly, especially with a severely out of form Dele Alli in the team.
Manchester United have won 5 on the bounce and have kept six clean sheets in a row, they look solid at the back and have Jesse Lingard in the form of his life. I think they have been overpriced by the bookmakers in this one, I was surprised to see them as big as 12/5. With Spurs’ lack of energy in midfield and a big Wembley pitch, it has great scope for Paul Pogba to run the show, I think his performance could be key in how this game goes. One thing that puts me off backing United outright is Mourinho and his acceptance of draws on the road at the big six in his tenure at Old Trafford.
There’s a few angles that are interesting here, Man United have been given a +0.25 start on the Asian Handicap which looks attractive but the two selections here are going to be under 2.5 goals at 20/21 and the draw outright at 5/2. We’ve seen Mou set his teams up to not get beat in these type of games and they’ve usually been tight affairs between these two.
Eriksen, Alderweireld, Rose, Lloris and Lamela have all trained this week for Spurs and are all in contention. Alderweireld is such a key part of this team and their win percentage is much higher when he plays. Serge Aurier and Harry Winks are unlikely to play.
Alexis Sanchez could make his league debut for the Red Devils and he did score against Spurs for Arsenal in the North London derby earlier this season. Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Eric Bailly are the only absentees for the visitors.
Potential Tottenham Starting XI: Lloris, Trippier, Alderweireld, Sanchez, Verthongen, Rose, Dier, Dembele, Eriksen, Alli, Kane.
Potential Man Utd Starting XI: De Gea, Valencia, Smalling, Jones, Young, Matic, Pogba, Mata, Lingard, Sanchez, Lukaku.
