Tottenham v Newport Betting Preview
Venue: Wembley Stadium
Newport County were close to a historic victory after Padraig Amond put them 1-0 up on Premier League Tottenham Hotspur. Unfortunately for the Exiles, Harry Kane tapped in to take this one to a replay at Wembley, a game which promises to be a mammoth task for Michael Flynn’s men.
Newport have performed exceptionally this season and are punching above their weight in League Two after been chalked up as one of the relegation favourites. The much needed relaying of their pitch has aided their attacking approach and Flynn seems to have a great man-managing effect. Newport drafted up a dossier on all of Spurs’ strengths and weaknesses and they did superbly to blunt those strengths and exploit those weaknesses. However, a big Wembley pitch could make things difficult and their fitness levels will be severely tested in this second leg.
Spurs started quite a few first team players in that first leg but that could be different here with the North London Derby this coming weekend and a trip to Turin to take on Juventus in the Champions League in a weeks time. Pochettino may rest a great deal of his first teamers in this one and hope to just get the job done, therefore 1/10 on them looks short and it’s difficult to find much value in the hosts. Spurs under Pochettino have had a penchant for a high number of corners with their full backs overlapping and Harry Kane’s personal shoot on sight policy, prices on the corner handicap are prohibitive however and we have to go to -7 for an odds against quote so I’ll swerve that angle. It is a market I’d keep an eye on with them in the future however.
Team news really is key here, with the presumption that Spurs weaken down I want to oppose them on the asian handicap purely at the prices. We can get Newport with a +2.5 start on the Asian handicap at odds against and that looks a good way in. With this selection Newport have to at least stay within 2 goals of Spurs for the bet to land, it’s effectively the same as +3 on the outright handicap but at a slightly better price. So even if Spurs win by two clear goals then this selection will land.
As I’ve mentioned it’s hard to guess the home side with some huge games coming up, however Mauricio Pochettino is under pressure to gain silverware soon and this is a good opportunity to do that. Toby Alderweireld and Danny Rose could be eased in after their injuries. Lucas Moura is unavailable.
Newport have no new injury concerns however Sean Rigg has terminated his contract and is no longer at the club.
Potential Tottenham Starting XI: Vorm, Walker-Peters, Foyth, Alderweireld, Rose, Wanyama, Winks, Lamela, Alli, Sissoko, Llorente.
Potential Newport Starting XI: Day, Pipe, O’Brien, Demetriou, Tozer, Labadie, Dolan, Sheehan, Wilmott, Amond, Nouble.
