The Mac is back.
After 2 years out of the sport, heavyweight Kingpin Tyson Fury returns and will take his first steps to reclaiming what is his, every heavyweight title belt out there.
It’s been an extremely difficult period for Fury; after beating Klitchsko for all the belts, it went downhill quickly for The Gypsy King. He pulled out of the rematch through to injury, and then had a very public cocaine issue that forced him to fail a drug test. It was a downward spiral that led to bouts of depression, and it looked like at one stage he wouldn’t return to the ring at all. Just as he looked likely to return, he had an issue with UKAD that kept him out of the ring further.
But now, after dropping several stone, the return is on. His opponent won’t offer much; Sefer Seferi is a natural cruiserweight who weighed in 4 stone lighter than the 19 stone Fury. However this is the exact fight needed for a man that has been away from the limelight for so long, who spent an age wondering if he would ever be in this position again.
The path for Fury is clear, win a tune up fight, step up to world level, then take on Wilder or AJ at some point in the near future. Anything other than a blowout would be disappointing, but to see the big man back in the ring benefits all of boxing, and I couldn’t be happier that he is.
- Fury 1/100
- Seferi 16/1
