Villarreal v Athletic Bilbao Betting Preview
Venue: Estadio de la Cerámica
Channel: Sky Sports Football
Monday night football is back with a clash between two Spanish giants who have felt relatively small this season, not performing nearly as well as they could or should.
After dropping 3 crucial points last week against Málaga, Villarreal will be extremely keen on taking advantage of Sevilla’s 4-0 thrashing to Celta on Saturday to further distance themselves from the Andaluz side. A victory for the Yellow Submarines would also see them overtake Real Betis by a single point and into 5th place.
Speaking of Real Betis, they seem to have swapped roles with Athletic Bilbao, the latter currently sitting at 12th place after a disappointing season. After Ernesto Valverde’s departure from the club last summer, the Basque has struggled to find consistency throughout the weeks under the management of Ziganda, who had been coaching the reserve side.
Villarreal do have the home advantage and are probably hungrier for the points, whereas Athletic Bilbao will be desperate to maintain their reputation for the rest of the season.
Villarreal will be without Bruno Soriano and Ramiro Guerra.
Mikel Balenziaga and Yeray Álvarez are also out for Bilbao.
Potential Villarreal Starting XI: Asenjo, Gaspar, González, Bonera, Costa, Fornals, Trigueros, Rodri, Soriano, Bacca, Sansone.
Potential Athletic Bilbao Starting XI: Kepa, de Marcos, Núñez, Martínez, Balenziaga, San José, Bernat, Susaeta, García, Córdoba, Williams.
