Third placed Vorskla entertain Group E leaders Arsenal in the Europa League on Thursday evening.
The Ukranian side must win and hope Sporting CP slip up to stand any chance of progression to the knockout stages, but face an Arsenal side in fine form.
Arsenal have already qualified from the group and are currently on an unbeaten run which has stretched to 17 games thus far and has included 13 wins.
The Gunners have been very impressive this season under the tutelage of Unai Emery, who has experienced a lot of success previously in this competition.
The Spaniard guided his Sevilla side to three consecutive Europa League triumphs, winning the trophy three times between 2014-2016.
Emery will know that the competition represents a great chance of Champions League qualification and will not take this game too lightly with Sporting only three points behind.
The two sides met for the first time at The Emirates Stadium in September, with Arsenal cruising into a 4-0 lead before two consolation goals from Vorskla took the shine off the victory.
Those two goals will instil hope into the hope side on Thursday night, but it will be a tall order for the side that are on a three match losing streak.
Arsenal have six absentees for Thursday’s match as Alexandre Lacazette (groin), Nacho Monreal (hamstring), Konstantinos Mavropanos (groin), Laurent Koscienly (Achilles), Danny Welbeck (ankle) and Stephan Lichtsteiner (hamstring) are all ruled out.
Potential Vorskla Starting XI: Shust, Perduta, Chesnakov, Chyzhov, Sakiv, Sapay, Sklyar, Sharpar, Artur, Kulach, Kolomoyets
Potential Arsenal Starting XI: Cech, Jenkinson, Pleguezuelo, Mustafi, Maitland-Niles, Elneny, Guendouzi, Ramsey, Iwobi, Mkhitaryan, Nketiah
Head To Head
- The sides have met only once before in September, with Arsenal winning 4-2
Key Stats & Facts
- Vorskla have lost their last three games in all competitions
- Arsenal are unbeaten in 17 games, winning 13 and drawing four
- Vorskla have lost five out of their six games at home
- Arsenal are unbeaten in their last seven away fixtures, winning six and drawing one
- Vorskla 19/5
- Draw 13/5
- Arsenal 3/4
Vorskla were minutes away from beating Sporting at home earlier in the competition and, with temperatures expected to be at way below zero, conditions may be tipped in the home side’s favour.
Couple this with the fact that Arsenal will have one eye on the North London derby on Sunday, meaning we may see a second string XI for the Gunners, and all the factors are in place for a potential banana skin.
Whatever side Unai Emery picks should have enough quality to justify their tag as favourites going into this one, but this matchup represents a great chance for the home side to get something from the game.
