Promoted from the Championship in 2009, this will be West Bromwich Albion’s first game in the second tier in just under ten years. After a turbulent season in the Premier League the previous season, the Baggies will be looking to return to the top flight at the first time of asking. Interestingly, West Brom enter the Championship season with a glimmer of hope as they remained undefeated during pre-season. Furthermore, the Baggies have made six acquisitions ahead of the 2018/19 season, including former Manchester United goalkeeper Sam Johnstone and Chinese striker, Yuning Zhang, on loan from Werder Bremen.

Much like West Brom, Bolton Wanderers also endured a turbulent season. The former Premier League side finished just above the relegation zone and two points from the drop zone. However, it appears that their pre-season hasn’t fared much better, recording just one win from five fixtures. Bolton currently possess 6/5 odds of being relegated from the Championship this season, therefore, it seems inevitable that the Wanderers will endure yet another rocky season in the second tier of English football.

Team News

New signing, Kyle Bartley, is likely to miss this weekend’s fixture for West Brom due to an ongoing knee injury.

Bolton Wanderers enter the opening fixture of the Championship season with a fully-fit side.

Potential West Brom Starting XI: Johnstone, Cranie, Wilson, Hegazi, Gibbs, Phillips, Brunt, Livermore, Barnes, Morrison, Robson-Kanu.

Potential Bolton Wanderers Starting XI: Alnwick, Olkowski, Beevers, Wheater, Taylor, Lowe, Vela, Wildschut, Ameobi, Oztumer , Donaldso, Le Fondre.

Head To Head

  • Despite what recent times might suggest, Bolton Wanderers have won the highest number of fixtures between the two sides – recording 19 wins.

Key Stats & Facts

  • These two sides last met in 2012, where the fixture finished 2-2.
  • The last time these two teams met in the Championship was in 2001 and Bolton won 3-0.

Betting Odds

  • West Brom – 1/2
  • Draw – 16/5
  • Bolton – 11/2

The Verdict

Much like Sunderland in the Premier League, it appears that Bolton are on a downwards spiral and relegation no longer seems a possibility and more likely to be a certainty. Therefore, West Brom are the clear favorites for this fixture.

Recommended Bets
